Engine block coolant plug stripped

In the process of building an LS turbo for my 91Integra

When I got the block the coolant drain plug on the block was half way out and would not thread back in.

The block is stripped out and the plug is pretty beat.

Do they make oversized plugs, or a helicoil for this?

I've never needed to pull one off so this is the first time I have encountered this and am clueless as to what to do next.

Help is appreciated!

Mcmaster makes a M30 helicoil insert that is $10 but the tap is $151. At that point I would opt to buy the same size tap and clean up the threads. Best bet would be to take it back to your machine shop and hope they have a tap that big. I believe its M28x1.0. Cheapest solution would be to weld the plug in there.

Yeah, you can even weld in a plug and tap the plug for a small bolt hole(Even 14mm) if you want it to still be a drain. Cheaper than a $151 tap.

That plug has 2 prongs on it? If so its the fan switch. You can block it off with JB weld or whatever and get a B18B thermostat housing for cheap that has the fan switch there instead. Then just get rewire with proper clip.

Ahhhh. Well thats unfortunate. Id try to purchase or find a new one. If there are some decent threads left it should hold with some Honda Bond between the threads.
