im getting ready to do this '99 b20 swap in my stock 98 b18b1 LS, ive done a lot of research online getting information for this, PLEASE add any details that would make this go easier for me

Parts
pretty much all of the parts from this year will bolt straight onto the b20
  • Intake Manifold
  • crank pulley
  • ac and powersteering brackets
  • fuel rail and injectors
  • drivers side mount
  • flywheel (im using a lighter 9.75lb)
questions
would i have to use the LS oil pump?
would using the LS ecu cause me to have that "lean power" issue
can i use my original ngk sparkplug wires in the b20? spark plugs?

what else would i need to ensure that i get this done right the first time, i havent had my car for two months because i blew the original motor and someone sold me another LS motor. The crankshaft broke 5 minutes after starting up

any help is greaty appreciated!!!!:D

1. If your motor is jdm, you will need to use the LS oil pump or you can do ckf bypass.

2. You will be okay to run on an LS ecu but if you can get a tune, do so.

3. I would get new spark plugs and plug wires.

Keep the LS intake mani, it's the best of the nonvtec b. The b20 has the giraffe intake manifold and is built for low revs and torque.

Just don't get power hungry. Idk if jdm or specific p8r spec b20 have better sleeve design than an LS but NA it will hold.

I know b20s have a 1 large sleeve for all 4 cylinders and aren't castes well to the block. There's gaps. If you get rev happy it's more likely to combust into bits vs the LS with the standard 1 sleeve cylinder design.

Stay in the rev limit and powerband and you should be golden. Good luck with the swap.

1.) Im not an expert on b20s but all b series oil pumps are compatible. You would want to upgrade to an OBD2 (so it has the CKF mount) B series VTEC oil pump. Honda dropped the non vtec oil pump entirely so all new pumps are now the same pumps that came on the B16/B18c1/c5 etc.
2.) I also think youll be OK running the LS tune. Its not ideal as its designed for the 1.8L not the 2.0L but its close enough to run without issues. Just wont make peak power.
3.) The plug wires should be compatible. Same head depth. Get new plugs. NGK 6 heat range, resistor type.

How does a camshaft break in 5 minutes?

im using a 1999
96' to 98' run 8.8:1
all 99' to 00' b20's are high compression (9.6:1) you can tell if it has a knock sensor, the b20z is also high compression

you'll know if yours is from japan if just says b20b
b20b1 is USDM it has a number after it there are more versions but i dont remember

Lol ain't the compression on a LS 9.3? Or something like that?

If you can throw 87 octane at it and not worry then I dont think it qualifies as high comp lol
