Idle won't set below 1000 help

I have a 90 integra with a b18b. When I got the car it already had an idling problem. It wuld idle at 1500 when I start it up cold but when warm it would start bouncing from 1500 to 1000 constantly. I started by cleaning the iacv with no luck. I cleaned the fitv with still no luck(I ended up bypassing the fitv altogether). Next thing was to clean the throttle body and make sure everything was working alright but I still couldn't find the problem. I changed the iacv hoping it might be faulty but it didn't do anything.

I was thinking tbe tps sensor might need to be replaced but that means I would need to find another throttle body but I'm broke right now. I started looking at little things I can do and noticed that I never tried adjusting the idle screw on the throttle body. I ended up screwing it in all the way which solved the bouncing idle but it idles at 1200. Stock is supposed to be 800? I don't know what else to do. I checked for vaccum leaks and replaced the base gasket for the throrrle body but don't know what else to check for.

Thanks for any input:)

are you sure that your ignition timing is right? Since its s 90' with a b18b in it that means someone swapped motors which means they messed with the distributor. Get you a timing light and check and double check your ignition timing.

Ill try that whebever i get my hands on a timing gun. maybe autozone has one. ill keep you updated

Cant i adjust the distributor alone to try fixing it before i try using the timing gun? or do i need it for that too? never really done it before thats why im asking

you need the timing light to properly adjust the distributor or you will just be guessing. Google search ignition timing for integras so you can get an idea of how to do it. its not that hard

if your idle jumps up and down make sure you don't have a leak in the IAC gasket. only the IAC would cause it to jump like that. if not then you would have to take off your throttle body and clean it. the idler screw tends to get plugged up from gunk and best way to clean it is to take it off the manifold and spray it down with carb cleaner to clean out all the little holes that get clogged up. This is only from my knowledge.

Do I need to take off the idle screw before I clean it? Because I didn't do that when I cleaned the throttle body

you can but i think it might have some kind of silicone on it, to cause it from leaking threw the threads. I didn't take of the screw off, plus it got harder to take of half way unscrewing it. so i just sprayed it clean after that point, but it did the job for me.

I was able to completely unscrew the idle screw. theres lots of buildup and im cleaning it right now. i checked the screw and noticed 2 rubber seal rings and one of them thays cracked all around. maybe this could be part of the problem?

Still havent timed it yet...might do that tomorrow if not next week.

So I cleaned the throttle body again this time with the idle screw off and cleaned all the gunk where it screwed in. I also cleaned the iacv again. I put them on and the idle, when warm, is now at about 1000-1100. Here's the thing though that's the idle when nothing else is on (radio, lights, ac, etc). When I turn on my headlights it drops to about 900. With the ac on the lowest setting its at 700; full blast it drops to 400-500. With lights and the ac on its going down to 300-400 that's the point where its shaking bad andfeels like its gonna die(don't think ima have em both on unless summer nights are 90 degrees, I live in cali). I also noticed the alternator making noise and I'm assuming the bearings are bad and its going to go out soon, funny thing is that I replaced the old one when it gave out and found one at a junkyard.

So my question is can the alternator be causing the idle to drop significantly from using ac and lights?

that good to hear that it is working now. your alternator might not be good anymore. best to check it by unplugging the battery while the car is running, if it dies or hesitated to stay running they it's a bad alternator. last resort would be you have a weak harness or plugs to the IAC.

I just tried that right now. I had the headlights on because its night time and when I unplugged the battery I noticed the lights would flicker every 3 seconds but will still run fine.

Signs of bad alternator?

Doesn't sound like the alternator. Right now your guess is as good as mine. I'm not sure how the electronic on the car can affect the idle response.
