If you're driving a manual transmission, you actually want motor oil for your transmission. According to the service manual it wants 10W-30/40 motor oil

You CAN use motor oil, but it lacks the friction additives that helps the synchros out. I recommend getting Honda Manual Transmission fluid or Torco MTF

When it comes down to it its not a matter of what you put it but how your drive. I have always used what my manual says in my teg and accord. My teg being my daily driver hasnt had a problem but my civic already is getting to the point of needing an overhaul from me bringing it to the track all the time.

Really not going to matter at the end of the day but how you drive with what you have

I am going to argue with that statement a little bit, because good fluids do keep things running better longer. So fluid isn't fluid. Also, Honda MTF is the same price as most motor oils so it is silly not to just get it.

agreed. Although, I have been told the "new" MTF is different from MTF of old. Something to do with the new honda transmissions. It would be fine to use the valvoline gear oil.

depends on what you are doing with the car.

For instance, us track day drivers on here, some use different types of fluid. Nick runs Torco, I run Motul and Matt uses Honda MTF. I previously used AMSOIL MTF, and found that fluid got crunchy at the end of a track day. My 4th and 5th sessions it felt weird. The Motul copes a lot better with racing and the heat. Thats not to say AMSOIL is a bad product, its awesome for auto x and daily.

Its a very good point. I understand why people get actual transmission fluid and I understand that its designed to be "better". But its just like the arguement over which oil is better.. Synthetic or original? Both have strong and weak point to them

I've ran motor oil just because I was unable to go to Honda. Then forgot to change it.
