Wow... I forgot about this post completely for like 2 weeks i think, i come back and madddd comments... lol but i love these talks man, so much great info and opinions, learn alot and see things in new ways.
on the drivetrains, adding to the comment about RWD or AWD is the best:
FWD: in my experience, i like how my drive wheels or the wheels i steer with are the same receiving the power, its so responsive and direct around a corner. complete control no RWD can ever give you.
RWD: Good that on a striaght line all the weight of the car shifts back onto the rear tires adding more or retaining most of the traction though through a corner it can be pretty tricky. Overshoot it and you can spin out of control, most dangerous drivetrain imo. Yet if you can learn to control that oversteer and use corrective steering to your advantage you can drift through turns when needed. and rwd turns into corners better. where as fwd is common to understeer. its annoying feeling like the car wont turn anymore then you want it to. and RWD feels like handling a wild horse. You can either handle that oversteer and make it turn better if you can learn to control it or spin out of control like crazy.
AWD: imo is the best! best traction. best pickup off a straight line. perfect for offroad or rally. and has the advantages of both, that direct control of a fwd into a corner but that added turn in from a rwd going through a corner. its like its hard to spin out of control in an AWD.
As far as import investing to reach V8 stock power. My thoughts, Its true yes we have to invest a few G's to turbo and build our cars and just to reach stock V8 numbers... but yea so what..? cause once you have 300hp in an integra you fly faster than a V8 with the same power. You have all the advantages of a nimble agile tight handling sport compact with the power of a V8. We mostly buy these cars used anyways so ends up costing the same as a domestic I think. but im not too sure how much domestics run for so i cant say for sure.
But our cars were engineered for circuit races. we as americans like to drag race them and push them with boost. but its hella fun, and even a car that costs triple still might not have that fun factor an integra has. just the noise you make and the attention it calls on the road has no equal. it just feels badass to drive these things. thats why im in love with the integra.
I have appreciated all cars as a child. From Audis, Ferraris to Mustangs, Firebirds, Transams to JDM n all. I am a car enthusiast, I can appreciate a car for what it is and its strength and what it was built for.
You also cant really compare a circuit car to a drag car to a rally car, eventhough we have a tendency to drag them all and worry about pure horsepower.
Also a other good point was brought up, and if im not mistaken Honda was one of the first to acheive the 100hp per Liter, with Vtec in the GS-R 1.8L 170hp well not comepletely 100hp per litre, but with the K20 yes.
where as V8's need to be a whopping 5.0L, 5.7L and what not just to get 300-400hp. that may sound like a badass motor but that sounds pathetic to me how you need double the cylinders, more weight bigger heavier motor to have tht power when all it takes is a good turbo and tune and we hit those numbers all day. Thats what I appreciate most of all in these cars is the engineering gone into them and re-engineering potential by tuners.
I remember i have a friend in a nissan sentra se-r spec v he smoked a charger RT with like 400hp i think or something. he had like 250 to the wheels light boost and he caught up to him in 3rd gear and beat him. another friernd of mine had a tiburon hyundai and beat a mercedes slk... not an AMG but hey still a mercedes with a supposedly more power and all, and he didnt even install his supercharger!
Thats what I like is proving people wrong, beating the odds, showing what can be done, opening minds to new possibilities and shutting the haters up.
and no, it was in a pure car forum these guys were talking s*** mostly domestic guys who had camaros and what not and bragged about mad stock power where as asking me how muhc i had to invest, what turbo and i still was just about reaching their numbers. but all i need is to reach a stock V8's numbers in a 2000lb car and I'm flying. idc, i love my car. i appreciate all cars though. i enjoyed this debate too, thanks guys!
