Why is it worth tuning these, and not just go with a north americano automobile?

Don't forget the story of the original mini cooper when it went into rally racing, it was first thought to be a joke for that little car to race. Long story short the mini dominated rally racing for years back in the day.

Except a corolla, I rented one while on vacation with the family and it just sucked.

The spectrum of this discussion is too broad. Classic domestic vs imports debate. Like previously mentioned, any true motor sports enthusiast has respect for most cars. Trash talkings just part of the fun but i think the op found himself a bunch of the ignorant variety plain and simple. This goes for pretty much every car manufacturer (regarding their arguements for what the cars come with stock vs cost to make power) but pretty much any car they have, only the second to top or top tier model makes any real power (think p2w). Unless theyre arguing the cost of a new car modded for power, its far cheaper for our older cars to go fast compared to (again) what they make stock. This can go on and on.. pointless really but im game.

Who the f_ck buys a saab? Lol
His mom has one and it is a great car they've never had any problems with it and it's at 150k miles. They also bought it new and really kept up on maintenance for it. So they can be good cars, you have to know it had a good previous owner I suppose

Also the original Mini during the touring car races of it's time, back when the European lightweight compact cars raced against American muscle. Lots of passing since the Minis could go around a corner and the muscle cars had power in the straights. Never gets old seeing a tiny ass Mini whiz and weave past a group of muscle cars near a turn. Original Mini was a boss at rally.

Yeah this discussion is a little too broad. But to the ones saying big muscle cars can't handle...... please wake up and smell the rubber. Stock? Not the best, they can't be built to hang with, and eat up the best of em. I have no place in this argument tho. I grew up building race cars my whole life (muscle cars), and have a couple also. I only got into imports in 2010. But as stated a few times, any true enthusiast will respect a well built car regardless of powerplant or country of origin.
