Dylan can vouch it's one particular special mod making the car quick. Those times are slow, still about 1.8 seconds off the old SM records when they used to run RA1's.If I had an actual Spec Miata with 120whp and higher spring rates and a cage, I'd likely be a lot closer to those SM times. And I can't run wide open the whole track, as much as I'd like to, not possible unfortunately.Leave it to a miata on r comps to come in and blow up the lap times thread. How does it feel to be able to be wide open through the entire track?
I'm not making excuses, just stating facts since I doubt most people on here know much about my car. It's a budget crap can.Yeah man. We can all say 'If we had this or this mod we would be faster'. Thats the nature of the game unfortunately. I am on damn near stock suspension still. Understeer is utter hell with my set up. The negative caster from my bend LCA arent helping in that category either
I am not worried about how your times compare to ours. I know I am slow, but hey, gotta start somewhere.
well you also have wide ass tires compared to spec miata. And the suspension is different. The closest thing But i guess if you trade X for Y then yeah i can see that. I didnt think the RS-3 were that far off, i was pretty sure they were pretty damn close to the times of an RA1 or R888Dylan can vouch it's one particular special mod making the car quick. And R-Comps aren't the deciding factor, RS3's are only 1-2 seconds off the NT01 on a Miata depending on how many heat cycles they have, and the new BFG Rival is supposed to be within a second of the NT01 on the Miata, both are technically street tires so take 1.5 seconds off my times if you want a street tire comparison to the Hondas on the board.
SM's that also run ITA and switch to the 225's for that class pick up only ~.3-.5 seconds. The added weight of the wider tire makes the car slower down the straights, and slightly faster through a corner. And SM's run 700/325 springs, I'm on 550/350's. The valving on the shocks are almost the same AST vs the Mazdaspeed spec'd Bilstein.well you also have wide ass tires compared to spec miata. And the suspension is different. That's why I said "if you haven't already" because the couple videos I watched were on S Drives, I didn't watch any on RS3's. RS3's are only a second or two off most R-Comps in a 15" size so they're a good choice, they just like to heat cycle out after a while unfortunately where as NT01's and RA1's don't really.Better tires eh? I am running RS3 dude. Depends on what video of mine you were watching though. I have some older videos that were on Yokohama s.drives, but I don't remember if I posted them here or not. The RS3 are fine for me. My suspension and lack of an LSD is what is killing me right now. Unloading the inside rear wheel + no lsd = massive wheel spin on top of the understeer.
Ehh I don't feel like jumping up to r comps until I feel like I have maxed out street tires, which I have not maxed out the rs3 yet, not even close lol. My car in its current set up is probably a 2:10-2:11 car(according to many top honda guys) at BW13 CW, so until I reach that I see no reason to upgrade anything really.
Guess I must have picked that video, they were on the first page of your build thread I think. I'll have to watch more from your channel another time. And I said with more suspension tuning. As in taking tire temps to optomize your alignment, corner weighing the car if you haven't already, etc. My suspension isn't great, the spring rates are far too low to yield any crazy fast times unfortunately, but the shocks are quite nice. Just tying to help, that's all.Oh I see...I only have 1 video of the s.drives and I swear I never posted them here. So I am going to assume you actually watched the ones with the rs3. I also like how you said fixing my understeer would be an easy fix. You assume I have the ability to raise the rear of my car up to rake it... Why did you say my car has more power AND more suspension tuning. More power, yes, better suspension? I highly doubt it, unless you are bone stock suspension, in which case I am still willing to bet yours might be better set up lol.
RS3's seem pretty talkative at BRP, I've never driven on street tires at BRP but I'd imagine the surface is what causes them to complain so much. Keep practicing and you'll get faster, your car looks like it still has plenty of time in it. PM me if you want specific info so we don't clutter up this thread any more than we have haha. You had me very curious as to the video(s) with the s.drives. I don't have it posted in any of the first few pages of my build thread. So you definitely watched a video when I had RS3 on... The screeching is just how horrible my understeer and wheel spin is.
Here is a more recent and better quality video.

Wasn't my fastest lap of the day, but it shows my common mistakes clearly.
