Really cant say ati is better then nvidia or that nvidia is better then ati. Just like picking between intel or amd, just depends on what kind of budget your working with and what you plan on doing with your system. Bottom line if you want to do extreme gaming go with amd and ati but make sure its WELL ventilated or water cool it. If your going to be doing lots of multitasking then intel and nvidia would probably be the way to go.

Personally more of a intel fan just because they tend to run cooler

Yep, The way I look at building a pc is What's your budget? What kind of performance do you want? and what do you plan to do with it? After you figure that out research and find what brand suits your desires best and go with it.

Actually for light to moderate gaming go AMD/AMD. Heavy gaming go either Intel/AMD or Intel/NVIDIA. My first rig had AMD's highest CPU at the time (955 Black Edition) paired with an AMD Radeon 6870. It struggled to play BF3 maxed out. Switched to Intel and got their MID range CPU (Core i5-2500K) with the same GPU and same amount of RAM and I couldn't make BF3 go under 60 frames per second no matter how hard I tried. I'm not sure if AMD has gotten any better because I've been out of the PC scene for a while but that was my experience.

Dont know a whole lot about amd but I think your refering to the phenom quad core which is why you would see a boost in the i5 because its hyperthreaded rather then single cores. A good compairison would be between amd's 6 core(I dont know the name) and intels I7 sandybridge which is actually a 6 core. That really is where your going to see a difference in what you do. But really the speed and processing power is just insane for both and most likely wouldnt see a difference at all. Lol. Really it wont matter what you use as long as you keep it in its heat range. Which is why I prefer intel

Heat really is going to be the speed killer. People think the cooler it runs the better which isnt true. If you make it run a lot cooler you will want to overclock it to compensate

Yeah that's what I was talking about. I never tested amd's hex core CPUs so I couldn't compare them to Intel's i7. I forgot amd's hex core name too lol
