Performance Advice?

Hey guys i have a 2003 rsx base, its pretty much stock except for my buddy club exhaust. I was just wondering if there are any good performance parts i could buy for relatively cheap that will boost the power a decent amount im not looking to spend a ton of money but a few 100-500$ parts wouldnt be bad to buy over a period of time. Just let me know if you have anything that would help me out not very good with all the performance stuff with engines but know most of the basics. Thanks any input would be great! ... By the way i do understand that a type s was made i didnt end up buying one not looking to sell my car so i will have to stick with the base model. :D

How much power are you looking at gaining?
Since you already have an exhaust, I suggest you buy an intake and header. You'll feel a bit of a difference.

x2 on the intake and header. That's about all there is in that price range, and without getting into the motor. Other than basic tune up/maintenance.

I agree. Intake, header and most importantly tune. A good tune will help free up quite a bit throughout the entire powerband.

AEM Cold Air Intake
DC Sports is the popular brand for headers. Get the 4-1.
Get the Hondata K-pro if you want a good tune.

Yeah, K-pro is awesome. As for a good tuner, depends on where you live man.

I read on another forum there are lots of other ebay sold ones that are much cheaper and are the same. This might not be true just wondering id probably get the one your talking about but if its true and it saves me some cash i wouldnt mind it. Im not one for cheaping out and not getting the better part though.

Really depends on the piping diameter on the ebay intakes. Hell I made my own intake and it works rather well. However, I can assure you that the ebay air filters are no where as good as the AEM dry flow filter. So even if you get a cheap intake I would recommend getting the AEM filter, so factor that in to the cost and how much are you really saving? There are so many reasons just to go with the AEM one over ebay. It is emissions legal so cops cant hassle you about it. They look nicer and often perform better by a lot and like I said it has the better air filter. And lets face it, why cheap out on something that MIGHT be just as good(which I highly doubt), when you can have the proven performance of the AEM intake.

Ok Thanks alot, ill look around and see what i can do im looking to buy the headers. And if you can answer one last question i have i know where i live its illegal to not have a cat converter, but if you would know, is it illegal not to have a muffler the exhaust i bought i think is pretty much straight pipe with a resonator. It is cat back as well i live in pa btw just wondering if thats something big?

The intakes in ebay may just be replicas. They are look alikes that are created to look like the real deal minus the R&D that companies like AEM put into developing the intake. AEM intakes sounds good and will improve performance so what more can you ask for? As Nick said, you can fabricate your own intake to be as good but you would still need the AEM dry filter to fully optimize your intake system.

For your question, it is illegal in the to remove the cat in USA but it is not illegal to not have a muffler. It's just going to be loud and cops may pester you for having an aftermarket muffler.

yes that is actually overlooked, removing the cat is a federal crime
