weird or dumb car thief?

so a few months ago i found my car unlock and slightly open in front of my house all they took was my bag of tools and left everything else like it was never touched (and no i dont have an alarm....) i will soon
i dont have anything expensive stock everything including radio i had a broadway and a $180 pair of sunglasses in their
today the same people broke into my dads 2011 toyota corolla and took nothing again... he has an alarm no alarm went off. Theses guys have to be professional
has this happened to anyone else? am i missing something? im more confused than angry...
can anyone tell me something that im not getting?

Your dads alarm might have not gone off because you can open the hood from the outside and disconnect the battery, then break in without the alarm going off. Unless newer cars work differently lol
But I know for older cars thats possible

set up a video camera outside youre house to see who it is and see how they are getting into your cars. if they hit your cars again they are obviously stupid thieves for coming back again and trying to steal nothing. Also beef up your security, you may have nothing expensive in your car worth stealing, but if they steal the car, its over.
