I see what you're saying. I don't recall what I did but I just looked under the hood and either I went from the side with a small ratchet, wrench or took the starter out. It's only three bolts holding it in.

Well damn. I was hoping I wasn't going to have to take the starter off. But c'est la vie. I've gotta clean under there anyways. Thanks for the help. Hopefully it'll be done sometime soon.

No tool that will fit from the side? Oh well. Less than 5 minutes. Had to do it multiple times tryin to troubleshoot something else. Everytime I work on something there's always something extra that comes up.

Man I've tried everything from swivels, doubling up on wrenches, tiny ratchets, and a super long bendy extension. I'm gonna do it tomorrow. I haven't eaten much of anything all day because I've been perplexed. Once you go Honda, you never go back.

lol good luck. I think I broke my knuckle on one...a tiny ratchet that slipped off the bolt and jammed my hand into the cold air intake entrance. ouch.

The intake? hm how did you manage that? I wonder if youre trying to tackle it from the top angle. What i was gonna do later after work or if i can move my car closer was go at the bolt level from the left side. Id be nowhere near the intake, right under it in fact. Drop your arm down from the between the firewall and where the intake tube would be. I know youre done for the day so we'll see how yours goes tomorrow. Im just satisfying curiousity cus at this point its simpler just to spend 5 minutes and remove the starter for you.

Oh yeah, I agree. I tried from the front of the car, the left side...ontop of it(or just about) phew she's a piece of work. But as soon as I get up in the AM(or PM) depending on when I go to bed, I'll take off the starter. Now I'm worried about to bolt being stripped. When my step dad got home he about killed his wrench and killed two of his 10mms. I feel so unaccomplished not having it done today. But I guess it happens

Things that always come up and make a job take longer is refreshing my memory a little. My first time changing the T stat took me about 3 hours. The thermo itself took about 5 minutes once the bolts were off. So that leaves a lot of time unaccounted for so although my memory is still vague on that part, it would make great sense that i couldnt figure it out or couldnt get enough torque on the bolt that i took the starter off at some point. The rest of the time was draining and replacing the radiator at the same time.

Hopefully your bolt aint stripped otherwise, new project! x.x

Just tried it and I didn't have a size 10 but could reach it with a 12. Might have to loosen the a cable for extra room to turn but you may or may not even have it there. Wiring can differ. So at least in my case I could probably loosen with a wrench or take off the starter.

I ended up taking off the starter. MUCH easier to get to after that. The bottom bolt ended up being stripped so I took a 3/8ths wrench and hammered it onto the bolt then got at th wrench with a hammer. It loosened it up and I was finally able to get it off. Thank God. Now I am just cleaning the engine bay while letting the instant gasket dry. What a day.

:thumbs up Mission accomplished. At least you didnt have a hard time with the stripped bolt. I dread stripping bolts or snapping them. Are you replacing the hose while its off?
