Hid's for halo's?

I'm confused.

Are people trying to argue that the actual halo ring has any sort of reasonable light output other than to function as a type of driving/daytime running light?

Or are people trying to say that the halo rings ruin the light output of the projector lens inside the housing?

I'm considering buying a set of "halo" headlight assemblies off ebay for $100 and putting some $40 clear ZKW-R projector lenses on them (http://www.theretrofitsource.com/product_info.php?products_id=136), just to see what happens. Or, could get the halo assemblies and then remove the halo rings? Or just man up and pay $300 for a set of OEM lights. *sigh* Too many choices.

Looks vs. lumens, you decide!

if you're going to retrofit is one thing... but putting HID's in an ebay projector is o_O

@Death: Any HID's in any non HID projector is o_O

Anyways, the idea with the ZKW-R lenses was to make the the cutoff a little sharper without the full cost of a true retrofit. It's an idea.I've not been able to find anyone that's done a lens swap only on either a stock headlight assembly or aftermarket. I bet a lens swap with some quality halogen's looks pretty good (Philips Crystal Vision Ultra or something) and has great output.

For now I will stick with my 35w HID's in stock housings. The absolute bastard child of the light world, the completely unacceptable, the ricer, the whatever BS you want to call it.

Most of the time when people talk about halos theyre usually saying how bad the headlamp is vs oem but the first reason people dislike them is because they have the halo ring and how it looks on our car or most cars besides bmw.

Now, you can do the same clear lens mod to the oem projector with similar or slightly better results but nothing you can do outside of a retrofit will look anything like a true hid setup. All the info you need on the clear lens mod is linked below. Been done.
