We are all allowed to polish our turds and measure our e-peens as much as we want to :)

The more I consider mods to my LS the more I lean away from doing "performance" stuff and I'm just focusing on making it look somewhat decent.

Also set aside ~$50-$60 to take the car to a dyno and see what you make before all this stuff and then after. I have a feeling you will be disappointed, especially if you do just the intake manifold and no exhaust.

Think about this, air that goes in must go out. If you upgrade the air intake and intake manifold you are "basically" taking in more air, where does it go? Into your stock low flowing header, cat, and exhaust. Well that doesn't help does it.

The other thing to consider with the air in, air out concept is that you need to have the power to move the air. With the low HP of the b18b1 you aren't going to gain a lot by doing huge upgrades to without doing something to improve the power of the motor itself. Then you get into upgrading the cams, changing the compression ratio, etc.

Also, will the ECU know what to do with all this extra air in and out? Will it throw everything off and be putting too much fuel or timing in and effectively killing any gains you may have had?

A better question is, what is your ultimate goal (from what I've seen it's to have a "peppy" daily driver), and what is your budget?

My overall goal is to get what can out of the motor. i am attending UTI next summer and want to do some of the bigger upgrades there such as turbo and/or a lsvtec. my budget at the time is around 400-500 dollars until i am done football and can get more hours in at work for a higher income of money. so right now i just basically want to set up for bigger things. i know that the exhaust i buy now will be no good if i convert to an lsvtec so thats gonna suck.

If you are planning on LS-V or Turbo later you basically shouldn't buy anything right now. As others have said, focus on exterior mods, getting the car looking right, etc. Do things like an LED interior light conversion (KlutchDB7 has an excellent write up on that), maybe lower the car, etc.

Most things you buy now won't carry over if you do a big upgrade. Unless it's worth it to you to buy intake or exhaust now and then end up having to sell it later. You could get away with a cat-back exhaust, I'm sure that could be used again. But a short ram or cold air intake, header, etc. are just a waste of time IMO.
