my first integra, complete with problems

hey hows everybody - i just bought my first integra -
i bought a 1991 acura integra GS with the b18a1 motor with roughly 170,xxx miles - i bought it for 700 dollars from a friend from work i felt bad because he got screwed and was given the car with a bum transmission and had no idea until he got it - i picked it up and replaced the auto tranny with a used one for now so i have a running car - it was definately owned by a ricer kid before and there is a lot i need to do to bring it back to its former glory - checked around a lot and found some answers but i just want to see if anyone else can give me anymore insight on whats going on...
after getting it back from the shop i noticed the brakes definatly need work but thats something i can handle - the one thing that scared me was the first time i actually pushed the pedal down to see what kind of power it had - it took off fine until about 5500 where it immediately lost all power and wouldnt go again until i let off and let it shift - i have driven it over 60 miles now and it runs just fine (the kid said the engine was rebuilt but i dont believe anyone) i tried just revving the engine to see if it would bog down but when its in neutral it doesnt seem to have the same effect... so thats one thing, also after my little 60 mile trek it never overheated until the last second when i arrived home - i checked the radiator cap and it was pretty cold - i think either the cap or the radiator are bad - is there any other reason for this? and the last fun problem is when i first cold start it, it obviously starts out high but when it drops down as it warms up and really choppy like its missing
other than that i love the car! its a fun drive even though the stupid kid had made his own straight pipe exhaust and it sounds HORRIBLE and the muffler smacks against the car since its not put in correctly
ill keep this thread going as i move along .
all these pics are still exactly the same as when i bought the car i only have replaced the battery and the back tires - so the spray painted taillights are still something i need to get off

I like it, it has potential. Your rims seem to fit the car possibly on the larger side (I'm guessing they are 17 or 18s) but they fit style wise. Good luck and welcome to the forum. You should do the 5 spd swap these are much more fun as manuals than autos.

It looks like it has a lot of potential and from the pictures it doesn't look to riced out, do a complete tune up and go from there is all I can say :). Nice catch, and as for the 5spd swap that's on the bottom of the list, I have an auto and it's just as fun to drive right now. :)

I guess drivin' a manual is just me then, I can't stand autos. LOL

i actually agree with the manual i prefer a stick shift over an auto and i even have most of the parts to do the swap, - i have the manual trans, the ECU, the Wiring harness - and the pedals from a previous car so i guess i need the linkage and the shifter too, but since i just paid 300 for an auto trans and another 300 to put it in ill just ride it out until it blows - the rims are 17's and suprisingly they dont rub or obstruct me at all they fit well, and they are my favorite part of the car :)
update on the car - i spent two days straight fixing everything the previous owner had done to the car, which included putting the interior back together and i replaced the rear hatch springs so now the hatch holds itself up which is great - i have a new header and full exhaust and 4 rotors and pads coming in on friday so thats going to be a fun day, and im replacing the hood and right fender with the correct color
so ill definately post some pics here in the next couple of days

Great to hear on the transmission front, not so much on the cost I spent a pretty penny on a transmission rebuild once, never again. I've read that 17s fit I think it's more of a visual bit as opposed to a functionality bit. They look nice though.
