Oil light.........blinking

My oil light came on and was blinking just as I got home from work. I checked the oil level and its maybe half a quart low. Not time for a change yet and when I listened to the engine running I didnt hear anything bad. No smoke no leaks just a blinking oil light. I shut the engine off and restarted it the light was solid for a min and then blinking again.
So my question is dose a blinking oil light mean anything different than a solid oil light ?

Solid light means your car is almost out of oil and blinking means oil pressure is off...aka time to change oil pump.

try a new switch first

Drop the oil pan and clean the pick-up screen. Maybe the screen is covered in junk and is creating a low pressure situation because not enough oil is being picked up. I'm guessing the light starts blinking once your actually driving correct?

I know you are trying to help but . I would not jump to such expensive conclusions.

a blinking oil light can be caused by a bad oil pressure switch . and a clogged oil filter can cause this .

My oil light blink sometime once I start the engine but I just shut it off and start again than I will be good for maybe awhile before it happen again. If it does just turn off amd on again than fixed

This happend to me that why i know whats up maybe its different but im sure the oil pump is going out

negative. you can see if shits in it by changing the oil, if there is shit in the oil its clogged ie metal

Going to change the switch and do an oil and filter change on it first. I hope its not the pump.

@Samurai When we took apart engines in my class, the pump screen was fouled in one of the engines with what looked like lint so changing oil does not guarantee that you will see the junk come out with it. Plus, who's really looking that closely at their oil as it comes out?
