Isn't oem 4300 or 4700? It was my understanding that non retrofit hids were illegal due to not having the correct projectors and blinding other traffic. If its retrofit how can they give you a ticket?

4300 is usually stock. It may differ in vehicle code language from state to state but in most its not legal because they were not cleared to be on a car that did not come equipped with them. Legal and technical mumbo jumbo. While in concept we would assume that lights legal for street use one another car in the same market would be ok to use on another car, it lies in getting things approved by dot. Im fairly sure i read in the past that the vehicle code states something about the original lighting equipment. Replacements and aftermarkets usually have met dot requirements and are stamped. Some or most cops know the difference between what regular lights look like and what people might have put in.

As far as I know, HIDs are illegal either way in the great state of California

I do, but I haven't gotten past season 3 yet! Please don't ruin ittttttttttttttttttttttt! haha. One of the best shows of all time, almost won an academy award
