Sounds like a mess but if you get that stuff fixed you'll turn your car payment in and just keep an integra.

i had the same idle issue. heres a link to my build thread. look at post 229 and 241 for a how to link! good luck!

$1900 is a fair price i guess... check fuses and all your ground wires for the lighting and cluster issues. a new VC and tube gaskets wouldnt be a bad idea and while you have the VC off you may as well change your cam cap seal on the passenger side of the motor right under the VC. good luck and welcome to CI!

eh my suby has around 4k left till pay off and with the acura my insurance actually gets lower by $40 so only 167 for 2 cars isnt bad plus putting $30 my subaru is half a tank I added $10 to the teggy and almost half.. cant beat it, and yes I was warned that integras have the VC leaks, so I checked my plugs and they have a little bit of oil on them so i'm assuming theyre fouled and causing my misfire and idle issue.. so I will change the seals whenever they come in

I had a REALLY bad valve cover & spark plug grommets leak when I first got my 96 LS, and I changed out all the grommets and the VC gasket & sealed my cam seal with gasket sealer.... I didn't have any idle issues because of the leaks though, but it did burn oil off of the exhaust manifold like crazy which smoked alot and REALLY stunk... I would say that the idle issue is O2 Sensor or vacuum system related....

Also, my shifter rod gets hot, but nothing else in that area, & I haven't had any electrical issues whatsoever. Get a service manual from HondaHookup.com & research the problems one by one with that manual... Should be rather easy to sort out with that manual.

With the brakes, replace the rotors & pads together, and check your calipers. The rear calipers on the Teg are Nissin & have to be screwed in to compress for new pads. I had to change a caliper on my rear brakes because it was froze up & not contacting the rotor, which caused the rotor to rust out. When I bought my Teg, I replaced all the pads & both rear rotors, as well as that caliper.

thanks for the input guys, i've been working with it ALL day... changed ALL the fuses and checked ground for my high beams... all lights work and the high beams work now after I sanded and grounded properly. although when I click the stick back it doesnt stay and high beams go back off.. am I stupid lol just wondering how to keep the high beams on in this car.. my subaru you have to click forward and it will lock with high beams.. and when the car is on the lights will flicker and dim so not sure why...took the tach apart and checked all plugs and changed the pigtails now everything lights properly and dings when the lights are on :D.. and detailed.. omg never had so many dirty towels, so gross lol but looks pretty sharp now inside, sanded headlights, cleared up, clay barred to see if it helps.. it doesnt lol..and changed all seals around doors sunroof etc

Whats a header leak due to oil burn off? Do a compression test to make sure its in decent shape.

I dont understand your idle problem. Does it warm up at 2500 then surge from 1-2 after it warms up? Cleaning iacv/fitv for starters will probably help this as its a pretty old car. Check for vacuum leaks too.

yea the moment you turn it on it will spike at 2500 just stay there until warming up, half process it will surge from 1-2k rpms but after its fully warmed it idles perfect, no ticking clicking pings anything and im not sure, it leaks around the headers but it spits out around a quart every 3k miles the previous owner stated, im not sure if I should change the oil yet as I might get the gasket done..

took a look at the control valve... dirty like you presumed

cleaned it.. took around half a can to finally clean all the gunk out

and while waiting I decided to wetsand my headlights

AFTER:

doesnt look like much of a difference but in person its a different headlight

and tomorrow when I get out of work I will take apart the IACV and clean it..
BTW It DID NOT help the high rev during start up but the revs no longer wander.. and the previous owner oiled the pod filter so much I had to use a degreaser inside the intake as it was soaked in oil, so I presume the MAF is filthy and drenched in oil

I can tell the difference since ive wet sanded headlights before so im familiar with before and after results. Looks good.

2500 for such an old car may not be that high. With my 99 stock ecu it would warm up around 2k but with my jdm type r ecu it only puts it around 1700. Yours may or may not be normal but if it isnt it could be it could be old sensors or maybe just old ecu. Im not too familiar with what the ecu does to determine what rpm to warm up at (if it even does that). If all this holds true then your problem may have been solved with the cleaning. I had a 94 ls for a short period of time and i think i remember its warm up rpm being higher then my 99. Close to 2500. I just figured it was outdated settings or something that just happens over time.

I think all you really have to do is finish cleaning, check for leaks and move on to the oil situation.

Looks like you have quite the project on your hands, especially w/ the wiring. Good luck man! Headlights look great.

Love the red WRX. My dad has an 09 STI, that thing rips haha! Trying to convince him to get at least a cat-back for it but he wants to keep it all stock.

thats true, it seems smoother now but once I clean the MAF I'll cleant the engine bay and find the leak, appreciate the help

thanks and yea my subie is fun to drive, after 2 years of owning it, it still puts a smile on my face lol, and tell him to buy a spt exhaust...manufactured by subaru, quiet but has grunt when high RPMS
