Well anyone who sells a JL for under 100 obviously doesn't know what they have

What exactly are you getting for $1900? I wouldn't be all that excited about getting a sub that you can pick up for less then a hundred dollars.

"Basic stuff" means what? New bearings? New piston rings? New gasket kit? Oil pump? Honing cylinders? Cam grind?

If he's putting $100 worth of gaskets on your motor and charging you $1900, i'd say your getting ripped off.. even if he's completely rebuilding it, i'm still skeptical.. Now I doubt you're getting a "brand new" transmission, so what exactly are you getting? A $200 LS transmission?

If you want to know if you're getting ripped off, we have to know what exactly he's doing to your car.
Sorry my answer didn't just jump in and say it was a fair deal, i'm pretty careful when I spend money, and there's a good chance I wouldn't be paying that guy $1900 to do what he is doing..
A rebuilt LS engine cost $800 around here with labor. A rebuild transmission and a rebuilt engine will cost around 2k. Plus, i know you like wrenching prozon, so 1900 sounds like alot, but shops charge what they wanna charge because they know the person will pay

When I was looking around for a rebuilt transmission I had a lot of shops tell me it's not even worth it to rebuild, that being said- the shop I found that WOULD rebuild it told me $1200. I paid $200 in parts and did it myself. Looking on Craigslist, LS transmissions go for $200 used all day long. (Again, which is why I asked exactly what he was getting.)

Yes, but that's because you and I can do it ourselves, and can source parts cheap. I'm guessing that's not the case here :)
I suppose you and J13 could be right. I'm just a tightwad with a lot of mechanical know-how. Lol.

Regardless, you can still call me God. :thumbs up

id say its a ok price for not wanting to do it yourself.

my concern is if they are using all oem honda parts or not. because i know me personally. with internals i only go oem all the way. autozone n those places are only good for axles started alternators n accessories bc they have lifetime warrenties. i've swapped axles out 4 times in 2 months there and they never questions it.

i would have said fuck having them do the tranny n just sourced one. that would have knocked a good chunk off.

the fact that theres a 60k warrenty makes it almost worth it. especially bc. me personally would just blow the motor up around 45k-50k just so i could get another fresh rebuild for free. or even a new rebuilt motor depending upon if it was reuseable or not.

^ I don't really care if it's OEM Honda or not. The way I see it, you're just paying more for the same parts. I buy pretty much all of my parts from RockAuto.com and I never have issues with any of them.

To be specific, I don't know per-say what he's doing to the engine... I'll ask him tomorrow when I go to pick it up because I'm not too worried about it being since he's my buddy. I know for a fact he's replacing rings, gaskets and he sent the head off to the machine shop. I know he did more but I havn't really talked to him. He's not rebuilding the transmission, he has a rebuilt one that hes swapping in. He went to the emergency room twice and he felt bad that it took longer than the estimate so he threw in the 12" JL sub in the box plus the amp and hooked it all up so now I have a working system too. Plus the 60k/2year warranty that comes with the work. I felt like I got a pretty good deal, being since I am nowhere near mechanically inclined enough to do this work myself. I was on Hmotors looking for a new engine and they don't sell b18a's just b18b's and that would require a little modification, not mentioning the motor & tranny from them (including ecu and wiring harness) was 2 grand. Then I'd have to pay dude for the swap. I feel like it's a fair deal, if I would've took it to a shop that I didn't know the guy they probably would've told me 3k.. and I wouldn't of got a sound system. Oh he replaced the clutch too I forgot to mention that, plus one of my engine mounts was shredded, he did that, and tightened up my ball joint. All this for 1.9k I'll have to get back to you guys and let you know specifically all what he did to the engine. But again thank you very much for the feedback, I really do appreciate it.

I'm from Eatonville, & if you don't know exactly where that is lol, it goes Yelm, McKenna, Eatonville. So I went up and saw the car today, the tranny he put in was noo good, so I gave him my spare and he knocked off 300 bucks. So now I'm only paying $1600 and I asked him what all he did.. granted he was very busy so I'm sure he missed some stuff but the jist of it is that he replaced all the bearings, gaskets, plugs, oil, mounts, tightened up the shifter linkage, got the head shaved, new coolant.. plus the sub, box, and amp. oh and new timing belt. So yup thats what I know so far.

O_O;;... lmao on my very first car...I hydro locked it (Damn Hidden-after rain puddle), my dad took it to the shop to get it fixed for 1600...I told him i could've done it myself for less, and it was my responsibility ... Eh i was 16, I probably couldn't done so anyways...

Yes I think i got ripped off, But every since then i was determined to fix everything on my own...4-5 motor swaps later i am happy that i hydro locked that bitch. LMAO

But damn that's not bad for 1,900 if everything is mint good...i mean if he half assed it....*facepalm*... it's decent pricing, gotta think about how mechanics live man...they need money too :D

I feel it, I don't think he half assed it though. Especially since he's giving me that warranty

Sounds like a fair price to me. What I would be sure to do is get the warranty in writing, as well as an invoice listing every part and every labor item, including the head work- just in case, you know?
