91 Inegra Will start but not GO (video)

91 Integra Will start but not GO (video)

When I put it into gear, let off the clutch it makes this noise but the car does not move anywhere.. When I push the clutch back in the sound goes away.

I've asked a few friends and they think it's either the cv axle or the clutch. The owner before said they thought the tranny was going bad but I don't think that's the case..It seems to go into gear just fine but the clutch pedal just sinks to the floor halfway down with hardly any pressure and when I let up it springs back quickly.

What do you guys think?

Holy fucking shit. Idk about the clutch, maybe the dif or the trans. My clutch acted a lot different when it went out; yours sounds hellatious to say the least

I'm going to have to say the clutch/ pressure plate. The owner before you might of thought the tranny was bad because the clutch wasn't grabbing when it should. Or the pressure plate wasn't releasing the clutch to engage the gears.

Any thoughts on a broken axle? wouldn't the car not go anywhere if that were the case too? It feels as though I can shift through the gears just fine when it is off..

And it would clunk around too, lol. I would assume it's pretty easy to tell, but it sounds like it may be the issue

loud clunking noises happened when you put it in gear ?

or is that when you put your foot on the gas ?

Ok here is a easy way to tell what it is.....Jack the car up get under it and grab your axles, from the sound it was making if it is one of your axles you will know right away. the axle shouldnt move if you find one loose and moving around there you go. look at the CV boots I would bet from the sound that which ever one it is will be torn to shreds.

@ gugiey Here is what happens. I turn the car on the clutch engaged, car in neutral. Then I shift into 1st and let off the clutch and this is where it begins to make the noise, as I am trying to take off but the wheels do not spin. Giving it gas does not affect this. I've even tried the other gears like 2nd but the noise gets faster.
@phinattic I have not had time to thoroughly look at it but I will after I put my eight hours in. I did take a quick look at the passenger axle when I first got the car and it felt as though I could move it an inch or so back and fourth (left to right). But the boots only had cracks in them, they weren't torn to bits like some i've seen.

I think the axle is still supposed to slide in and out from the slot just a little, as long as it doesn't rattle sideways, so in my opinion this is not a bad sign.

I'm no transmission expert, but I think it may be bent fingers on the pressure plate.
You could remove the axle which is easier and check the ends on each for damaged ends or bits of metal, but you may end up having to open up the transmission anyways...

I want a second opinion though, I don't want this to be held against me. lol

probaly not the fingers cause it doesn't happen when he apples the clutch only when he is releasing it .

and your axle should
not have play .
I would try pushing
it in all the way and see I'f it locks in
I'f not remove it and check for damaged splines and wear.

A small amount of play is normal. There should not be play at the ends where they slide into the trans or knuckles, but the axle itself will have a small amount.
OP, it sounds like the clutch disc is gone. If you put the car in gear and there is no movement of the car at all, I have to say the clutch would be the first place I'd think to be the culprit. The loud popping you hear may be another issue entirely though.

When removing the transmission to replace the clutch, do I drain the fluid or leave it in there? I was told both ways..
