It just depends on the setup I suppose. If you're too far from stock- you need a tune of sorts.

I agree with Endo, do a swap and build something on the side.

And an ls/v kit, tapped oil pan and ecu
no tap oil pan(thats for turbo), you mean tapping the head.

EDIT: is this about what i would need for a gtr head swap?
http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/pts/2792501072.html
parts need:

LS/V KIT as stated
GSR head studs or bolts(studs are better)
GSR Timing Belt
GSR Water Pump
Tap Head for Vtec oil line that runs from head to oil filter sandwich that comes with the kit

Disclaimer: Slapping on a head on a stock LS bottom end is fun for a short period of time, not much power is gained. The LS motors have weak rod bolts and even weaker bearings not made to handle over 7200 RMP, where a GSR came reach 8200 RPM, losing your edge.

Best thing to do is get a good reliable motor to ride around in and have something on the side getting built the right way the first time

I do not suggest an LS/vtec motor. The reasons? Just what Endo just said.

Swap a full B18c1 motor in if anything.

Buy a low mileage vtec motor. You can have them shipped to you, they're more powerful then your current motor, and they are low mileage so you don't have to worry about them blowing up anytime soon. :thumbs up

you dont need a truck, just gut out your trunk and tie the motor in there. BUT prozon is right just get a fresh low mile motor delivered to your door.

If you do ls/vtec right, it should be as reliable as any engine. Don't skimp on anything do it right the first time and it will be reliable. Good luck!
