Issues with 00 Integra

Hey everybody, new member here. My name is Mike. I drive an 06 Charger RT but I just purchased an 00 Integra GS to slash my fuel expenses. But now it seems as if my economical choice is going to come with some expenses.

I've noticed that under moderate acceleration, the engine seems to stumble a bit before gaining speed. Ive noticed this nearly all the time. Whether driving on the highway or driivng on the streets. Just today while trying to merge on the highway, the engine began to stumble and the check engine light began flashing. After doing this for about 5-7 seconds, the engine accelerated normally and the flashing check engine light went away. Any ideas as to what is wrong with the car?

I'm thinking the timing might be off by a tooth or two. But the weird thing is, I have no check engine light. In one of my previous cars, the timing was off, and the check engine light remained on. The loss of power in that car was very noticeable too.

My Integra has 125k. Doesn't burn any oil. No oil down in the spark plug cylinders (I havent checked the plugs themselves). No burning coolant. No check engine lights. And in addition to the engine issues, I was wondering whats the "normal" mpg one should expect? My last fillup of 10.4 gallons got me approximately 242 miles with mixed driving before I had to fill up again. Is that normal?

ANy help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

could be an o2 sensor. For some reason on mine one of the wires coroded. Causeing it to ground it self out on the sensor. therefore causeing my car to stumble on accereration. It took me a while to figure out but check that first. I get around 300 on 10 gallons.

You might want to replace your plugs/wires/cap/rotor. You could also try some fuel injector cleaner. All of those are pretty cheap maintenance items. It could be an o2 sensor as well. You should get close to 30mpg. The issue you are having could be affecting your gas mileage.

if sensor checks ok. I would do the routine maintenance, if you haven't done it already. Spark plugs and wire, change oil, oil filter and fuel filter, change radiator fluid and timing belt. I cleaned ivac motor, fitv and throttle body. I had the similar problem with lag and was only getting 18mpg. I wasn't sure what was the root cause of it but changing all those parts listed above and cleaning seem to solve the problem and now I average about 290 miles with 10 gallons.

The check engine light flashing typically means a misfire. I would check the compression of the motor before even messing with the routine maintenance to see how healthy the motor is. If you have good compression then I would work on the plugs, wires, cap, and rotor.

a flashing CEL means a catalyst failure. AKA what ever code you have is killing your cat i think these are known as class A codes

Thanks for the help guys.

Yesterday I was checking to see if there was a dropped cylinder. I had a 96 EK hatch over the summer that had a dropped cylinder. So I began pulling the wires out of each cylinder while the engine was running to make sure each cylinder was firing properly. However, when I pulled the plug wire on the cylinder closest to the driver side fender, I noticed sparks at the sides of the plug down in the cylinder. So I'm guessing the insulation on the spark plug wires are bad??? None of the other plug wires had this issue. Just that one. But Ill be going to grab some new wires and plugs today to see if that solves the issue.

30mps?!? That sounds like heaven. That's the reason why my Charger is sitting and the Integra is the new DD. My Charger gets about 16mpg. But with these issues I'm having with the Integra, this last filup is on track to get me about 22mpg. No bueno!

Thanks again for the suggestions. Ill get the plugs and wires done tonight. And Ill pour some injector cleaner into the tank and fill it. Ill keep you guys posted.

I'm in a similar situation as you. I have a 2010 dodge challenger hemi. I'm getting 14mpg city and 18mpg hwy. I needed a dd so I decided to get my first love back, Integra. I was only getting 18mpg with the integra. After all the routine maintain done and a couple of mods. My highest mpg was 27mpg. I spend about $33.00 a week on gas with the Integra and use to spend about $150.00 on the chally. SAVING $117.00 A WEEK ON GAS:shocked2::like:
SO I FEEL YA BRO! GOOD LUCK ON GETTING YOUR INTEGRA UP TO PAR AS FOR MPG GOES:thumbs up

2010 Challenger??? Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. Wish I had the change for one.

With the 60-70 miles I drive daily, the Charger is just impractical. When gas prices were over $4.00/gal I was spending over $800 for gas. The price drop in oil has helped. But Im sure the Integra will help much more once its running properly.

that's not really too bad, they did this one by the book hours so according to what you had done they charged you fairly, they spent the time working on it,so really it wasn't to bad,it would have been a lot worse though had you let them do all the repairs, some of their prices are a little high, places like that have high labor rates, next time you might want to find an independent shop their prices are a lot more reasonable, good luck.
