too keep myself from storing fat and gaining about 20 this winter ive decided that i will start the body work...this of course will entail body filling and fabrication of pieces missing from the wheel wells and stripping and at least primering the body...

i have one question though, i dont want to really sand the body, except where i actually have too where i use bondo and what not, but to remove the paint, whats the best stripper? ive heard about aircraft paint remover being the best? is this true? give me your insight ladies and gents!

sanding effin' sucks. i'm right there with you on that. haha

aircraft stripper is supposed to be really messy and toxic, though. i passed on that. if you're getting down to the bare metal, you're going to have a lot of work cut out for you anyway. you're going to have to sand no matter what you do -- even the primer (you'll need self-etching primer and a couple other types of primer if you go that deep, too). you don't want the rust forming (not visible right away) since there will be a lot of moisture in the air in the winter, so you'll have to protect the metal often.

if your current paint job is the original one, you shouldn't even have to strip it down to bare metal. you do have to get all that clear coat off so the new stuff can adhere properly, though. get a paint thickness gauge and check your car. that should give you an idea of how much you have to sand.

i wouldn't use Bondo brand, though. there are better fillers out there. Evercoat Rage Gold is good for the money.

hey like they said stripping is very very toxic. your gonna need a lot to do it right. i just fabricated pieces to remove all my honda rust and the rocker panels. for your wheel wells you will have to weld in the pieces or your just waisting your time. rust is a bitch and will eat the body filler alive. if you just sand on the primer your going to have high spots and waves very badly....NEVER use an electric sander or da on the actual filler. use a 5 inch grinder to take off the paint(if your seeing lots of sparks fly off your shaving off to much metal and not enough paint)get a good rust mort and let it sit on the rust for a good hour and then neutralize it with either a wax and grease remover or water. fill your areas making sure your not sanding waves into them. use a sanding block and 36 grit on any filler and fiberglass filler. then go to 80 grit. for small areas that small dents are pulled from use a very thin filler with 80 and 180 paper. for any bare metal spots do not just prime over them. use a self etching primer followed by a primer surfacer. dont get any filler on the paint or that shit will just fall off in a few months...you can pm me(i am in school for all this) but your gonna have to sand on the paint. there is no getting around it if you want it to look good
