[help please] Will a clay bar and wax fix this?

Well the paint on the back half of my car looks faded and pretty splotchy and bad. I was wonder if its really just a really dirty @ss clear coat that a clay bar and wax can fix. I just wanted you guys opinion before i go out and spend the money. (parents don't like me spending money on the car cause it was like 500$ and ima get another a car in less than a year -.- they are VERY frugal -.-) sorry the pics are mostly the wing. Thats worst part of my car just to give you an idea of what i have going on. tell me what you think. thanks!

Thats oxidation, not surface contaminants.

You need to get a bottle of car polish/ rubbing compound and put your arms to work, or use an orbital polisher if you have one.

GAH i don't have orbital polisher, but i can definitely do it by hand. thanks for the info guys. About a month ago my dad was considering a maaco paint job. D: its good to know my paint hasn't gone to hell just yet and i can still make it look fresh. ;)

My car was the exact same way when i got it. There's some turtle wax called "color back" it does the trick perfectly. It just takes a TON of work. I was in the garage pretty much the whole day doing it.

If it's your money- spend it on whatever you want.

And car care products aren't a waste of money- they can be used on all cars!

My Chevrolet be bangin'
get some car polish and put a few layers of wax over it. my paint looked the same way until i waxed it and now it shines again

well i started with the rubbing compound on the wing today and i have some bad newsssss -.- either paint on the wing is thin to start with or, the layer of oxidation is so thick that i have to take off almost all the paint to get rid of it .:x or maybe i am just doing this wrong :???: the paint on the wing does have some really fine cracks in it making it look deeply scratched even after the rubbing compound. atleast its a piece of plastic that wont rust  does anyone know if the body is has a thicker coat of paint that won't be as easy to go though ?

Is this how it should look as the oxidated layer comes off ?

the cracks in the paint make the polish compound go down to the primer D:

i can't get the edge without getting the primer T.T

i did my best to photoenhance the cracks in the paint. if you look closely they looks like a bunch of black lines running horizontally.

i work in autobody and ive seen this so much.basically what is happening is the clear coat is coming to its last amount of life meaning it gets all huey and distorted like yours...now the rubbing coumpound should have worked but the clear coat is too whethered to handle it in turn you are rubbing it off with the paint...the only thing to really do is to get it resprayed. however the cost of the vehicle is only 500 so it wouldnt really be worth it for paint would be around that cost...

another thing if you want to measure the amount of paint on the body. get a "mill guage" it measures the diffent amount of paint on the auto body determining how much clear, paint, and primer is on there. usually when the vehicle is painted though there isnt that much of a difference in paint thickness throughout the whole car.
