What's a good size tire?

Hey CI, so im looking to buy some tires for my 1993 DA and hopefully some new rims as well. I see that the stock tire size for the DA is 195/60/R14, i was wondering if i could get a thicker thread-width on the tires?

maybe 225 with 15" rims? and if i do get a thicker thread-width will i have to change anything else like the profile?? 225/*/R15... what size of rims will i need if i get a 225 thread-width?

I have $300-500 dollars to spend. I definitely don't want to spend more then this and i would feel comfortable spending closer to the $300 range

I wouldnt go over a 210 or preferably a 205 in width.
I suggest a 205/50/15 because it's what I run on my lowered da with absolutely no problems whatsoever

I like this idea... except mine is stock height. One more question, i see that some rims say 15x7 and stuff like that. what does that mean?

well it depends on how wide the rim you are using is....i like to use a 205 on a 6 1/2in wide rim

Stock height won't matter. And with the smaller sidewall (50) it will make your fender wells not look so big and u don't have to worry about rubbing if u do ever lower it.
As for your other question about 15x7 the 15 is for 15 inches In height and the 7 being for 7 inches wide.

Edit: yea a 7 inch wide rim is just fine. That's the same size I'm using lol

Wait...so you can use a 195/50 r15 on a 14" rim?

How is that possible? won't it not fit?

I'm confused...

The OP is looking for new wheels and tires. So if he gets a 15x7 wheel, he can put a 195/50/15 tire on it or what not.

15x7: 15" is the wheel diameter, 7" is the wheel width.
195/50/15: 195mm is the width of the tire, 50 is the aspect ratio (50% of the width = the height of the sidewall, so in this case .5*195mm=102.5mm), and 15" is the tire diameter for the wheel it will fit on.

To prevent changes in the speedometer readings, you should try to match the diameter of the OEM wheels.

If stock for a DA is 195/60/R14, then the overall diameter of the wheel and tire is:
(195mm)(.60)+14".
(117mm)+14"
4.46"+14"= 18.46" overall

I hope my match is correct. If you change the wheel diameter, you would want a tire that maintains the overall diameter of the unit so that the speedo doesnt read high or low (although small differences wont be very noticeable).

not quite
117mm sidewall height is 4.60 inches

and you have to double the sidewall measurement and add diameter of wheel

so a 195/60/14 tire is 23.2 inches

a 195/50/15 is only 22.6 inches

id rather opt for a 195/55/15 which is closer to original diameter at 23.4 inches
or a 205/50/15 which is 23.07 inches

and most likely will have better luck finding more tire choices with the latter 2 sizes

I had 195/50/15 on a set of drag Dr 16 on my Da and it looked good and fit great but I'm gonna get 195/55/15 for my db1 when I get new wheels I just think the 55 side wall will help fill the wheel well a bit better for my liking
