Im looking to build an lsv setup but wondering what standard trans to go with it that'll compliment it. I want a wider range than my stock ls has since it seems geared low for the 1.8..... any ideas? And no i dont want an auto....

well fortunatley for you no auto trans will help it will hurt ive heard that b16 trannys have long gears im trying to remember had a rough night quite me on that? or is it a gs-r that is longer? trying to remember... honetly though if you can find a type R trans id try that!

B16 is short gear...

It goes like this (from shortest to longest geared):
Type R
B16
GSR
LS

I would go with anything but the LS

isnt the 96 itr the same as the b16 and the 98 type r just shorter on some gears but longer on the others?

Keep It Clean
A good transaxle for N/A and circuit racing would be an ITR or B16 or GSR, boost having fun GSR or LS. Drag strip ITR or B16. Daily driving with fun weekends, GSR best of all world. All this is, is My Opinion.

Ok so i went and looked at a 96 del sol trans from a buddy and realized its a hydro......(duh). I wouldnt mind a hydro clutch but idk what all needs swapped out from my 91 teg cable. Plus the kid wants $900 for it and idk if thats right or not. Does any company sell aftermarket ring and pinion sets to swap out in the trans? Because if so ill tear my ys1 apart and do it myself. im looking for some lower ratios thats all.

There are cable to hydro conversion kits available. And $900 is a freaking rip off

Dang it, Dylan beat me to it lol

how do i know which clutch to go with? Use my b18a designed flywheel/clutch/PP/Throw out? Or the design for the trans? Like if it comes from a 96 do i go with a 96 clutch set or a 91 set for my b18a? Ive been told if i get a different trans from a dif model year you have to go with the trans model year to buy your clutch....

pretty much rule of thumb, buy a clutch for the transmission, i highly suggest staying cable though, im not a fan of the hydro conversion the pedal really feels weird compared to a cable system

ok. well with the info ive seen here of the differences in the ls trans(ys1?) and the b16 trans(y21?) is barely any difference in final drive. im probably going to stay cable with my stock trans and see where it gets me. For spendin $400 on another trans to get barely any difference doesnt seem worth it. But i will def get a stronger clutch. Any ideas you guys have on a comporable clutch that doesnt break the bank but yet stays grabby. Im lookin at comp clutch or clutch masters but figured id ask what types you guys like

there is a big difference between the LS and the B16 one. The other gears are different its not just the final drive. The cable transmissions on the right hand side of that table show the different cable transmissions, the LS, GS, RS, SE are the slower of the cable transmissions, i suggest getting a cable gsr transmission, you may fall out of vtec with the longer gearing
