hi i have a pioneer deck and i just got it from a buddy and it worked fine just a bit ago. he got a new deck and that one sat. now i hooked it up. not my first rodeo as i have done it hundreds of times. the cd player seems to work fine. says the cd is playing but there is no sound at all...my speakers are hooked up fine...is it in the wiring harness or could the cd player just be messed up

I would have to say you have a disconnect in the wiring if the sound is not coming through. Recheck the wires at the harness.

That's what happens when it's in protect mode. Protect mode is caused by a grounded speaker wire, a positive and negative speaker wire shorted together, or a bad speaker with no resistance. You can test each speaker wire with a voltmeter. Check each wire for continuity to ground. There should be none. Then unplug each speaker in turn and test the two speaker connections for resistance. It should be about 4 Ohms.
