What is a S-AFC??

rockadilla

thats right.
The SAFC is a computer that modifies the MAP Sensor (Manifold Absolute Pressure) signal to the ECU of the car. This is really useful because it can "lie" to the car’s ECU about how much air it is getting. Accordingly the ECUwill give more or less fuel to the engine, thus helping you tune. Added use of the SAFC comes from the fact that you can mess around with different settings throughout the RPM range with different throttle positions.

The SAFC does not officially support our Engines Our MAP sensor is NOT listed in the manual. However, this isn’t terribly crucial to the way the AFC works. All that the SAFC does is VARY a signal (in our case, a voltage).

The only reason you would need one is if you needed a major tune, (such as after installation of a turbo or another big HP addition to the car)

Keep in mind, that when the car runs in closed loop mode, it runs off pre-determined optimal maps. Think of these maps as a chart containing airflow, fuel and ignition timing. The airflow will determine what fuel delivery and ignition timing that will be used. The problem is that when you modify the MAP sensor signal, it inadvertently changes the ignition timing too. To get any kind of decent tuning out of an AFC, you will also need an ignition timing controller. Then it's just a battle of the two systems working against each other as one is trying to change the timing while the other is trying to set it back. Also, for the price of an AFC and ITC, you could just get a real system that doesn't contradict itself.
