I wanna get an alarm for the teggy, I don't know what's good and what's not, I've only really heard of viper..

****I'm only 17 and only work part-time. So I can't afford a very expensive alarm system. I DO NOT want remote starter.

That being said, anyone give me some suggestions?
thanks guys

well there's viper, clifford. they're basically the same thing.
you could also do kill switches (main relay, ignition, fuel etc.) these are usually not that expensive to do

theres also quick release but it should not replace an alarm system. also the money you spend on this you might as well buy an alarm.

i'm in your same situation as only a 17 year old with a part time but to be honest i'd do what i can (get a loan from your parents) to invest in an alarm system because it will be worth it in the end, youre protecting a really big investment (assuming you modify your car) that's my two cents.

if you want to check out the kill switches go here

Viper is owned by Directed Electronics, DIE pretty much owns all the big name brands of car security. Personally I'd stick with Viper and get it done by a certified technician so you can get the insurance guarantee they offer. You can buy the systems online for fairly cheap between $100-$300 + install which is around $50 to $90 per hour and its usually about a 3 hour job. At least this is what I have been quoted around where I live.

First of all thank you for being smart enough at age 17 to know you need an alarm. A lot of people have to learn the hard way. These people are easy income for thieves.

If you're going to have someone install it then just get the alarm through them. They charge more if you get it yourself.

Get a Viper / Python / Clifford. There are some others that are decent, but there are also a lot of very bad alarms out there. If you just want a basic alarm then get the Viper 350 or it's Python equivalent. It's a great alarm.

The installation is EVERYTHING. But if you're paying someone then just cross your fingers. Do yourself a favor a do a main relay kill switch. There's a write-up on this forum and it's pretty easy.

i ve been recommending this alarm to alot of people
and installed great many of them previous model as well(rf-420lcd)
its a basic 2 way alarm and the remote is very tiny compared to some, almost everyone i asked liked the fact that it was a very small 2 way pager remote..
its only 89 bucks on ebay

but if you go to a store most of the stores offer a remote warranty of some kind, we usually offered a year or two for remote replacement if it goes tits up very good thing to have because remotes break (ALOT)
especially viper 2 way pagers.(nothing against DEI but i ve seen alot more viper remotes break compared to autopage) and viper doesnt give a warranty on the remotes ( they cost over 100 bucks to replace)

tenshi_R that is absolutely true about DEI paging remotes and probably most others. I keep mine on a spare key chain and mostly use a standard remote. I take the paging remote if I'm going to the movies or the mall.

I'm highly skeptical of your $89 ebay alarm though.

I was also banned from team-integra when I disputed much of morning z's bad security advice. I freely invite anyone to dispute any of my advice. I'm much more concerned with spreading the best info and not so much in protecting my pride.

I could list at least five other forums I've been banned or boo'd off of if I cared to remember their names.

autopage has been around as long as viper and clifford
they are great alarms.
the 2 years i have worked with them i actually had less issues with autopage alarms beeing deffective than DEI.
and honestly they are pretty simple to install.

as far as buying from ebay
i bought my compustar 2way RS there 4 years ago and have not had any issues.

on the other hand my buddy bought the viper5700 (the one with a design flaw) and i only found out after 2 weeks of trying to figure out wtf is wrong, turns out DEI recalled the alarm for a receiver deffect but ebay was still selling them.

lol dont even get me started on TI that place is a joke. bunch of old people hangin out they might as well make it private for their own lil gang crew.
the only thing its good for is info. the furum might as well not exist anymore because most of the posts get deleted or locked.
funny thing that they keep referring to search when even the authors of the original post point out that their info is old(been about 10 years ).

i got banned many times for trying to write some info on security and what/how to protect, morning z thought it was too much info and thiefs might use it to steal cars. while there are 1000s of videos on Utube showing how to break into cars.

i wish we had local forums here as well not just northwest... that way we could arrange gatherings of peeps here as well.

Oh it's an Autopage? I didn't follow the link. Yeah I've never had a problem with that brand. My friend has had a "Shelby" (rebadged Autopage) in his Subaru that I put in YEARS ago. He loves it.

That's almost exactly what I was banned for. Morning Z thinks he's top dog as far as installation goes, but I've had people email me their horror stories of his installs. One guy I was helping found a shop rag used to try and conceal the alarm brain.
