hi, i have a 92 integra rs. i have a question about the water pump. is it possible for the barrings to go out and make this chatter noise like its loose? the timing belt is tight and everything is timed right. its not over heating or anything. i was just wondering. i thought the belt was still loose but wasnt. it sounds like something is loose in the belt area. the valves was just done not to long ago, i cant figure it out.

thanks...

It could be the blades on the back of the pump came loose, those things are just pressed on and they tend to do that, replace water pump and timing belt, get a timing belt set It comes with new tensioner pullies

Well 3Axis seems to know what it is..

If you have any doubts about the condition of your water pump, change it. Do the whole timing belt set up.
(Water pump, timing belt, tensioner.)

I didn't actually know what the source of the noise was, but I guess that's the reason.

How do the impeller blades "come loose" ?

I assumed you knew, because of the link.

Yes, the bearing can go bad in the water pump and make a bad noise. The blades inside of it can actually break as well.

Damn. Wish I had the money to replace my water pump. Oh well. It'll have to wait when I get a new timing belt in about 50,000 miles...

It's not something I would put off lol. I've seen water pump bearings go bad and jam the gear, the whole system doesn't like that.
