Water Cooled turbos?

With a turbo, sometimes they have plugs where you can plug your coolant line into to make the turbo water cooled, do you really NEED to do that or can you just take the plugs out so they don't melt, and leave the water cooled option open? Thanks, just randomly wondering.

But why would you not want to run water to it?

Water-cooled turbos generally run cooler, need less time to cool down, have greater resistance to coking of the oil......etc.

If the turbo is designed to be a water cooled turbo, then give it water! lol

Yes, hook up the water lines. Water cooled turbo's own just oil cooled in so many ways. I cant even remember the last time ive seen a only oil cooled turbo.

I believe he is asking if he HAS to hook up the water line.

My answer is YES, you do.

The real world answer is no, you don't. But it won't last
