used pistons question

so my buddy is doing a b18a1 n/a build he got a block with some ctr 9:1 comp pistons in it and he isnt going to use them. i was wondering how much they are worth and if i can use them in my b18b turbo build to cut down on cost. any help wouid be great! thanks guys

They're not a bad piston. I've heard of plenty of people using them in builds. And if you've heard of them- it's just that much better.

I would look up the part number on them and make sure they are exactly what you think they are. I bought some pistons that were supposed to be around 9:1 comp and they were 10.2:1 lol.

ooh yeah good idea! now if they are for stock bore and i plan on getting a hone sometime next week am i going to have fitment issues?

sorry, CTR pistons? Like Honda P30 pistons from a JDM B16?

Those certainly are not 9:1 compression.

i donno my buddy who has them got it in the block he bought he said the the engine used to be boosted. ill have to check the part number and try to get some more info from him.

You wont need bigger pistons if the block is just honed. Now if its bored out then yeah you will need bigger pistons. Honing the block just cleans up the walls and puts a nice new cross hatch on them for the rings to seat.

well i think he doesnt want to sell them so what would be quality piston an wrist pin combo for around 300? everything ive seen is 500+ and that makes my wallet sad lol i saw this dude was selling je turbo pistons for 120 and also some cp's for 300. im just not to sure on what to look for when buying pistons i guess

Aftermarket pistons require aftermarket rods if I'm not mistaken. So if you're short on cash, I'd look into another route. if it's on an ls, your compression should be fine

yeah i already got a set of eagle h beam rods. im doing a full rebuild up from a bare block. i guess this kids going to sell me his 81.5mm cp slugs for 150. which seems pretty good price. had a dude on another forum ask 300 for the same set. im just a lil scared spending all this cash on my first turbo build and it ends up being a waste.
