turbo on 95 integra ls auto daily driver mostly stock

i am contemplating putting a cheap turbo into my dd 95 integra ls , auto tranny. it has 136k miles, mostly stock except for exhaust/intake. im wondering where i should start first? i wont mind using a cheap ebay turbo kit, as i dont plan on racing or dogging it really. i do plan on getting headers and i have a new high flow cat on the way. also will upgrade im and tb because i broke the bolts on my stock one lol. will it be possible to do this and still have a reliable car? will my stock internals be able to handle the boost? how much boost should i aim for to keep it reliable with stock internals? any idea how much ill be spending on parts? ill do most of the installation myself. any other tips or people with experience doing this on a stock b18b1 dd?

thanks

Don't turbo an auto and you shouldn't do it for your DD if you really want something faster your best bet would be buy a different car. Modding DD makes everything rushed and more frustrating. IMO

As long as you restrict yourself to 10psi only, yes you can run it just fine on stock internals. Ultimately everything revolves our your automatic tranny's health at this point. Clutch pack condition, torque converter, etc will all take the brunt of the HP increase. I recommend running royal purple max ATF fluid or redline D4 instead of the OEM honda fluid, as its a higher viscosity full synthetic specifically designed for the abuse that you will be putting your trans through. Avoid N-bombs at all costs as that will be the fastest way to destroy your transmission.

As far as how much you are going to be investing into the turbo build, that remains up to you, there are several cheap and sure fire setups you could go with for the B18B1 but you are looking at between 2-3 grand for a reliable turbo setup. The turbo itself being about 1000 bucks. Keep it small, fast spooling, and make sure to keep your power band inside your rev range. The first modification I had to do to my auto was to modify the trans computer to shift at 7100-7200 instead of the factory 6800 to make use of the increase in power band range on 8psi.

yeah i decided not to do this with my auto tranny, im probably gonna wait until mine gives out and swap in a gsr manual or something. also prob gonna swap in a b16 vtec head and then go for turbo. its gonna be a while before i do any of this though lol. my acura is in good shape but it has a salvage title so i cant get as mcuh as i should if i wanted to sell it, so i plan on keeping it for a longgg time as a project car.

Yeah man...save up and just do it right...the stock motor will handle low boost but the stock auto trans will not...if u r looking to keep it auto and boost it ck out spawnes build thread

Since I havent logged on here in almost 3 years, I see the same comments about building automatics-always discouraging. I've owned my automatic 2001 GS for over 10 years now. Problems come and go, but my tranny is still shifting fine. I used to run nitrous in it, now running stage 2 crower head build. I have old dyno slips of just under 200whp, before the head build...my guess was I was around 210-220 after. My reason for pulling was less about the tranny and more about tuning. First thing to do with an automatic is install a tranny cooler-$50 mod that will ad years and relaibiltiy to your transmission. 2nd, change your tranny fluid often-every 15,000...and or do full flushes. 3rd, don't neutral drop, etc... For increased performace, upgrade your TC. Biggest problem with automatics is tuning. I tried the AEM fuel ignition control which worked great, until programming glitch dropped all fuel maps and had to switch to the trusty Apexi safc which I've run with for last couple years. Greddy emanage will also work, but hard to find tuners that use it. Hondata doesnt support automatics. I've heard rumers of Chrome and neptune working but have not seen actual proof. If you want to have fun with your automatic, and not go crazy, invest in a wet ntirous kit. Your safe running 75 shot, you don't need to retard your ignition, just run colder plugs. You'll run 1/4 in 14's, and hit anywhere between 170-190whp depending on other mods. Like I said, I have slips to verify this. Kit will cost under $500 plus $30-$50 each bottle fill. Advantage of ntirous in automatic is you can hold down thru shifts, vs. manuals that have to let off (keep from lugging motor). No extra tuning is required (although a trip to dyno will let you fine tune as you'll probably be running a little rich-which is better than lean). Consider this-thats faster and more hp than the now extinct JRSC. If you decide to boost, gl...and I'll be glad to give any advice if needed.

Not a good idea. Your auto tranny is going to go KABOOM!

The tuning issue is different between OBD1 and OBD2 only because of the fact that the trans computer is not indepedent on OBD2 cars.

Like I said, 10 years plus...tranny is fine. No manual clutch will last that long. I've had friends destroy manuals, with far less hp from miss shifts.

I considered doing the obd1 swap-even got a conversion harness and obd1 auto ecu. Turned out to be more of a PIA. Spent way too much time researching chipping, etc... On most good days I can run without a cel, and when I do its that stupid emmisions one form the test pipe (even with the extender plug).

Fantastic thing about the OBD1 setup is the fact that you can tune with whatever you want for the engine, i run ectune because it offers the programming for the lockup clutch output to the trans computer, which was also independent, and then with some help from redline performance, we actually found out you could modify the trans computer to shift at a higher rpm. So now i went from 6800 to 7200 give or take 50rpm, which makes much better use of my powerband with the blower.
