Hey guys, my buddys got a gsr and he's trying to go turbo. He bought a cheap turbo kit off a guy and we're doing the install.its a t3/t4 .50 trim.and there's not enough room to fit it. Its hitting the bottom left part of the engine (as ur looking at it). I heard something about shaving it from another forum I browsed around on...what would/did you do?

well was it a used kit? what did the guy he bought it from have it on(if it was used)? did he research the kit and make sure he has all the parts?

I bought an ebay kit too man, none of the piping off ebay seems to fit, buddy of mine had the same problem. basically what we're gonna do is cut and re-weld.

Have you clocked the turbo? Meaning loosen the bolts on the turbo hosing and rotate it clock wise then re-tighten them. i can do a how to vid here in a few if need be to show you how to clock the turbo so it clears the block.

If you have already clocked it and its still hitting the block, then you need a different turbo manifold.

has all the parts, im not too knowledgable at all with turbos, but my other friend thats helpin out has done a couple and he looked it all over. was never on anything, was gonna go on the guys 97 ls integ.

umm...yes ive clocked it..i can try more times to see if i can get it just right., but what does the manifold have to do with it? its hitting the engine not the manifold. i think i read somewhere about shaving that part of the block to fit the turbo.

no other ideas?
i think im gonna research more on cutting the bottom corner of the engine. i heard it was safe, just wanted to make absolutely sure.

The turbo is mounted on the end of the manifold. If the manifold is properly built, there should be plenty of clearance. Clocking the turbo as previously stated allows you to adjust it to the proper position for correct fitment. If the turbo cannot be clocked to clear the block, then you can use a different manifold to position the turbo in a different location so that it clears the block. I, personally, would not grind the block. Sourcing a manifold that positions the turbo in a location that provides adequate clearance would be the proper method. It would have to be a very large turbo to not be able to squeeze in there. If that is the case, you probably don't want it on a street car anyway.

Which manifold do you have? What turbo?

It'd have to be an abnormally large turbo to not fit in there. I've seen BW 372's on a DA/EF chassis and those are monsterously sized. I would never grind material away from my block, I would look into buying a better quality turbo. Post a pic of how your turbo is sitting right now to see if its clocked all the way.

Thats a baby turbo, you should not be having clearance issues with the block unless:

1. The turbo is not clocked properly
2. The manifold is poorly made, and causing clearance issues.

ok, so we clocked it over and over and tried fitting it, still wouldnt fit. so we ended up grinding the lower left end of the support or whatever a little.
