Troubleshooting for 1993 1.8L DOHC

I am currently trying to figure out why my car shuts off after it has warmed up for 10-15 minutes. When the engine is cold, and I start the car, the rpms are steady. After 5 minutes, the RMP needle begins to jump. Eventually the car just shuts off. After, I let the car sit for about 5 minutes, the car starts up with no problem. If the car keeps running, I won't have to deal with the same problem until the engine sits overnight. I have changed the spark plugs and spark plug wires. Any leads towards what the issue maybe: ignition coil, sensor, ECU, main relay, ect.?

i know my answer wont help you much but i think its either a sensor going bad or your coil. I read a forum post one time back in the day about this same problem. try doing a search on this site or on g2ic.com for this problem. I seem to remember something about a crack in the coil and when it heats up it causes expansion and then it wont run. best of luck man

well if your car starts and runs for a while its probaly not an electrical problem. (sensors coil etc.) if it shuts off when its warm its probaly overheating. thats why u shut it off for 5 min and its starts back up. i would look over radiator hoses and if your thermostat is opening when its supposed to.

I changed the coolant sensor, replaced the fuel pump, and even cleaned out the idle air control valve. It was working fine for about a week. Then, it started again. I really don't have a clue

Sorry man, but this isn't really true at all. Thermal expansion can and will cause electrical components to fail. Specifically the coil. The fuel pump is another one that can give these symptoms.

Op, is the car overheating when this happens? Just to rule it out... Otherwise, if it isn't electrical, your fuel filter may be plugged. I would replace that immediately to rule it out. It's cheap.
