Transmission problem/question

As most of you know, I am all about changing my transmission fluid. But the last time my grandfather was over, we changed it and my shifts seem to be noticeably harder and rougher as time goes on. Well tonight I went to pass somebody. I put my foot down on the pedal, the trans drops gears like normal, but instead of shifting again the car just hits the rev limiter and wouldn't shift until I let off the gas. I have been looking at putting royal purple max atf in it, but it is a synthetic. Is it safe to mix it with non synthetic atf? I know it says you can, but I just want to be sure.

It sounds like its going out... Changing auto trans fluid can lead to issues, some being complete failure if you did a complete flush... In terms of your PM question, an aftermarket trans cooler was used in conjunction with a mishimoto radiator, you can easily pick one up at any auto parts store. I'm not sure it'll help your situation though, that was done as more of a help to the trans in terms of keepin it cool with my higher power goals I had.

Thanks. I think it may be starting to go out. But, since I got my new sub, the added weight seems to have played a role in the hard shifting. Tonight was the first time I have floored the car in a while. My grandfather also just comes out with a giant jug of transmission fluid. God only knows what brand it is. I want to try royal purple and maybe another cooler to see if it helps any. If not, manual swapwill be coming really soon.

What ratio will you be mixing them? I see no reason why it would be an issue though. ATF is pretty basic stuff. Synthetics and non synthetics really only have different characteristics with how they manage temperatures. Also, keep in mind they do make "Partial Syn" fluids, which tells me that it is possible to mix them safely. I know a lot of people that track make a cocktail for their MTF out of syns and non syns lol.

Well I was planning to just get 4 quarts and do a single drain and refill, but eventually have all the fluid changed out to royal purple.

Well that has to be better then whatever cheap crap you might have in there right now. I am a firm believer in quality lube. :p

Yeah I know. I have never had a problem with what's in there now, but this last drain and refill has made my transmission worse. If it doesn't get better, I'm just going to start collecting parts for a manual swap.

Drained my transmission. Put in the royal purple and I must say. It was well worth the $65. I can't even feel the car shift.
