Transmission breather is clogged

So here's the thing. I was doing some engine mount/CV joint work on my '93 teg and noticed two things: first, I was getting some minor fluid leak from the tranny, and while at first I thought I must have nicked the gaskets when taking out the axle, I later realized that there was a (somewhat) loose bolt on the connection to the transmission coolant, and that thing was leaking. That seemed to fix it, although it's a little bit worrying, since I didn't touch that bolt at all, ever. Anyway, I *also* noticed that the vent on my transmission is, as far as I can tell, clogged pretty badly, which would explain why tranny fluid was leaking out of the loosest spot. Now, here is the question:

How do I clean the transmission breather tube without taking the transmission apart? I could just use a coat hanger to push whatever is in there into the tranny, but that hardly seems like a good idea. Or should I just ignore it for now and hope that, having tightened that bolt, pressure from the fluid will naturally blow everything out?
