Hey guys...So it looks like I've found my b18b1. Its from a 96 GS and cmes with everything including ecu AND transmission...Poor guy got t-boned but this baby has JUST over 60 000 miles on it.

Please, can someone tell me if I can use that tranny?

Clutch? Is it hydraulic? Cuz Im sure mine is cable.

Thanks so much.

X2 or you can just use your tranny but the 96 clutch won't fit because 90-91 ls trannys have a smaller spline.

Whats a tranny worth?

Well his tranny has around 60 000 miles on it and mine has 150 000. Not to mention my clutch is original and as far as I can tell the plate is so thin it only has one side to it. :p It fully engages about a half inch before its all the way out and Ive adjusted it as far as it can go. Makes a funny metal sound these last few months too...Just cant be good.

So, I either use my high mile tranny, and put in a used clutch (they are cheap as dirt like 60 bucks) or switch the whole damned lot. Engine, tranny and clutch.

Anyone know what a used 96 GS Tranny with 60 000 miles goes for if I sold it?

Im paying 500 for the 96b18b with 60 000 complete with all parts. including tranny and ECU.

Im guessing thats an ok deal ya?

Thanks for the help guys...You never dissapoint.

Yikes...

Woah..forget that then. There is no way im shelling out 500 to do that. Thats as much as I paid for the whole damned thing. Damn.

Thanks for that info man, is there no way to do that any cheaper?

why don't you just use your tranny and buy a new clutch. The ls cable trannys are pretty strong anyway. I'm using a 90ls tranny on my built b17 and it has a shit load of miles on it. Miles don't kill trannys, dumbasses that can't shift do.

Lost in TRANS-lation ;p

Ominous: The price in your link is just for the cable to hydro actuator. But as far as I understand it I need mounts and an actuator...Which is why it costs so much. Is that right? (380 delivered is my best price so far from Spoolin)

Aussie: The problem with buying a new clutch is, by the time you factor in the cost of the new clutch and the labor, (Not to mention that I have tp pay the guy to actually separate the new engine from the new tranny and install the new clutch) its not a whole hell of alot cheaper than 380 for the mounts. Its cheaper but not by much. So its like, I pay 250 or so for a new used clutch for all the parts and labor and the ability to use a 220 000 km tranny...Or I pay 400 and get a tranny with less than half the miles. (or km's in this case)

The other thing to keep in mind is if I use my old tranny I will sell the new one and clutch for somewhere around $225.

Anyone want a 60 000 mile tranny/clutch conbo for a rediculously cheap price? :p

Fack Im lost.

Well, if you want to change it out yourself with buying a few tools. There are a billion right ups on how to do it and we can help you threw it. You'll save alot of money from the labor.

Thanks but I took the low road...

Thanks Jason, I wish I could do the work myself but I dont have the space unfortunately. I basically sold it to the guy whos going to do my swap. Hes getting a great deal but hes giving me a deal also on the work. (Basically I give him 200 + the tranny and my old b18a1 and a licensed tech gets this thing done for me) So thats like 200 out of my pocket instead of 600 to 750++ everyone else is quoting me. The b18a1 that needs a valve job but otherwise runs like a dream so hes getting a really good deal here too. I just dont have the room to sit on all these parts and wait for the right buyer to come along.

Thanks again man.

Cheers
