Tranny problem

I have a 95 Integra LS DB7 automatic. I was wondering what causes a auto tranny to shift hard? I also have a unusual idle sometimes that goes from 1500 RPM's to 2000 RPM's for about a min? Can anyone help me I dont know much about auto trannys. thanks

I have had the car for about 3 months, i had to replace the engine when i got it.

Have you checked the transmission fluid?

If so, when you check it, is the car running or off?

The fluid is new, it was serviced when the engine was changed. and yes it was running. I replaced the engine cause it had a blown head gasket and i didnt know what else was wrong with it so i replaced it just incase something else was wrong. well the car does have 207000 miles on it and the engine now has 35000.

it sounds like its changing idle because their is more of a load. idk maybe check your grounds. if the tranny is the original tranny you might wanna replace it. if you dont wanna do a swap and wanna stay auto then you can buy mine if you want? im doing a swap on it. its a 92 integra obd-0 auto.
