Alright this is the start of my tare down.
this is before I did anything a before shot

And hear are a couple shots of the motor after taring the mani, wiring loom, air compressor, intake, battery, and a couple other misc. parts

I bought this car under the assumption that the guy that did the vtec swap new what he was doing.
I found that the head gasket was leaking all the way around.
The distributor housing was leaking and found that there was a couple wires that where cut at where it would seem by a connector of some sort not sure as of where it went I will get a picture maybe someone will know or look at the schematic.
Now excuse the oil and mess I drove for a while with the leak had no choice had to get a new truck since something happened to the engine sounds like I threw a rod hoping that it is nothing that major though the engine has not locked up though so we will see.

this is one of the mani sitting on the work bench out of the way.
also one of the wiring

wanted to make sure neither one of these got damaged during pulling engine out.

That is all for now.
This is going to be a long project and just started as of 1/2/09 so I will be posting picks through out the whole project.

looks like fun. just gonna repair or build?
This was going to be a repair at first.
I decided if I was going to pull the motor out I might as well do everything I wanted to do under the hood.
first is a a fully balance block and all the extra goodies inside and out do not have a least yet been researching for a goal.
Then I am going to do a full wire tuck and brake line tuck or do away with abs have not decided which one to do first but will figure out soon enough though.
Then there will be more to come body, brakes , interior , wheels.
stay tunned for more:

No this is not a budget build well not really I can't spend more than a $1,000 a month on it.
Of coarse right now it is only going to be about $300-$400 a month till My new truck and house are paid off which those will be paid in march or april when taxes come around.
So for the next 3-4 months it is kinda a budget so my bills can stay paid.
but after that my wife told me do anything I would like to it I'll be trying to post progress pictures once a week since I only have two days a week to work on it.
so stay tunned if interested.
and any input for ideas of what today as well as parts.
I want to keep it a sleeper that can rip the doors off some of the most none driven cars around ( cobra, Gt, Z28, SS, ) so on and so on so.

Hey guys, got a quick question.
as I was tearing some of the wire loom out and the other parts I noticed down on the drivers side fender wheel well directly behind the wishield washer fluid there is a black box have wire feed to it it says p28.
Now I know that this is for a single over head cam b16 vtec at least this is what I have heard now my question is my head is a pr3-3 which from my understanding is a dohc vtec b16 head.
My question is will the p28 opperate properly for this dohc vtec since the p28 is suppose to be for a sohc vtec if not what would be the best one to buy I have heard that a p72 or a p30 is a better selection for this motor.
which ever one I get is there any where that I can buy one new or do I have to go to a junk yard or the dealership to get one?

that black box is your cruise control. in regards to ECU, the p28 is like the holy grail of honda ecus and I have seen it used to run pretty much any motor, you just need to get it socketed/chiped.

Alright appretiate the input.
By the way I will still be tearing the motor down to see what happened to it why it was knocking but as far as getting the parts and doing what I wanted that will be put on hold now.
As of tonight my manager decided to can me so mine and my wife's income just got cut by 50% so got to make sure I keep my kids and bills taken care of we are still going to try to do a little along it will just take longer now so keep reading hopefully I'll get back on track with it and get it going

Alright guys,
I've been away for a while I stoped because of a job loss well my wife told me to at least get the teg running again and clean up the engine bay.
So my goal is now to fix the problem which I now beleive is a spun bearing.
I have a little more pulled off now am just waiting for income tax to come in to get my engine hoist since I will be doing this mostly by myself with the exception that my wife will help occasionally.
I've also decided to do away with the abs power steering as well as a small wire tuck.
the main wires I will be tucking are the ones that run on the inner fender wells.
I am as well relocating the battery to the trunk.
Here are the pics of the past 3 days.

I look at this and this is a huge mess can't wait till it's cleaned up

I' m geting ready to pull all the abs out here

all gone with abs all gone it looks a lot more empty

This one is of all the crap that is not going back in the car let me say that is alot of stuff that will clutter an engine bay

This is the seperation of the main that is staying in the bay and the other hanging is going to be tucked inside the fender which is all headlight radiator and horn etc.

well guys that's it for today but since I am unemployed at the moment I am going to be spending all day every day until my electrician apprenticship begins so I have just over a month.
So keep checking back I'll have daily progress picture for a little while.
any input would be nice.

i wouldn't be setting things on top of the head like that...you don't want to scratch the surface that runs against the cam...or the rocker arms(i think that's the right term). you want to keep the head super clean and free of defects. i recommend puttin the valvecover on.

your probably right I"m used to dealing with cast iron heads lol.
well it was pretty beat up when I pulled the cover off thankfully I'm get every thing fixed on the head.
For the wire tuck its only abs. , power steering a/c removal. and tucking the headlights, blinkers, radiator, and the main loom that is in the bay I"m going to be relocating my clutch fluid line and a couple of the brake line for now.
I'm not relocating the battery or fuse box yet when I have the time patience and money I will be doing that.
I wanted to do a full build on the car but am only able to replace bearing rings and have the crank fixed from the spun bearing as well as having it balanced getting the flywheel lightened and a good port and polish for now.
I am stuck with having to use the factory exhaust and intake mani. what a bummor.
So I figured since I was unable to do the motor work I wanted I might as well as fix the problem and clean up the engine bay a bit make it look better.
As well as putting my baby on a diet to lose some weight.
due to the fact I have to replace upper control arm on driver side all of my ball joints both steering knuckles and getting a manual R&P there is a lot of stuff needing replace on suspension and steering no point in having a fast car if I can't drive it.
any comments guy feel free.
as goes any advice as well feel free.
stay tunned for more pics.
