System setup

So my uncle has a power acoustik 12 inch sub and either a 1000 or 1200 watt kenwood amp I can have. Would that be a decent little setup? I don't want anything mind blowing plus all I would need is a box.

That would more than suffice. You'd be good with a 500 watt amp even. But I say go for it for sure

Ok. My car is already wired and stuff. The sub and amp are old. I think they're like 7 or 8 years old, maybe older.

The age is no big deal if the stuff's been taken care of. I have a 14 year old amp in my GSR, though it went unused the first 9 years or so of it's life.


And I have 3 amps in my Civic that are 8 and 11 years old. And a 13 year old crossover.
More and more equipment nowadays is being made in China, so being older may actually be better. That's why I have older stuff, made in the U.S.
And what you complaining about age for, the stuff's free! lol

i REALLY REALLY need to get around to mounting my amp.

I wasn't complaining about age. I was just stating that they were old. I didn't know if age would hurt how they operate or anything.

Type of box depends on music preference. Rock/metal/classic/country/etc usually sound better in a sealed or bandpassed box. Rap is better ported, as well as any other type of music that has any sort of constant low notes
