Stereo keeps flicking off when playing music loud, need help.

I have a 2000 acura integra, and I have quite a few speakers in it. Two in the front, and eight in the back, along with two 1000 watt boss amps connected to two JL Audio subs. I've been having a problem with my stereo where if I play the music loud enough the music will turn off for a split second. I've been told its possibly because my alternator or battery can't keep up, but none of my lights are flickering off, just the music turns off for a split second.

I'm uncertain as to if this could be a wiring problem on the 8 back speakers I have, or to my stereo. If anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it, and if anyone needs any more info, i'll be glad to give it.

I am not an expert with electrical but I do know I had an alpine head unit attached to 2 12 inch P3's and it would cause my head unit to do the same. It was caused because it was over loading the head unit so I had to buy a secondary battery to help power my subs. Your problem is most likely a power issue where you don't have enough to handle the amount of speakers you have.

It could be a couple of different things.

A) Your power supply is failing to keep up. A capacitor is the simple solution. You've probably seen them before. It holds reserve power for when your stereo demands it most. It's less expencive than running a secondary battery.

B) Your amp is becoming overwhelmed and cuts out for safety. Some amps get hot under high power consumption and momentarily cut out to cool down. All you could really do in this situation is relocate your amp somewhere that it can ventilate better, or upgrade it.

I think the more likely of the two options is the power supply. Goodluck.

ground isn't thick/good enough
amps over heating


Those would be the top 3 causes to your problem


Another battery, or a capacitor, or thicker wiring would solve the problem

A capacitor sounds like a good idea to attempt to fix my problems. I've been meaning to get one anyways, and just havn't. I'll load some pictures up of the set up I have to help show you guys. My wires are pretty thick so I wouldn't think it my wires. I mean, all the wires I had came from one of those rockford fosgate $100 starter packs (i needed the splitter because I knew i wanted to connect multiple amps).

I'll try a capacitor, but if that doesn't work, will that mean I need to purchase second battery or upgrade my alternator?

dont get a cap. there not worth the money. get ur self a gel celled battery. they make small ones just alittle bigger then a cap and it will produce more power un like a cap that can only produce power at peaks

oh and if u got all 8 speakers running off the stereo thats not good nether cause ur radio can only handle a range of ohms and if u have all 8 speakers running off the back channel ur ohms is definitely not gonna be right for ur radio

I'm going to say the battery can't keep up lol if you want to test if it really is, try un-plugging like 6 speakers in the back and leave a total of 4 of them plugged in and then blast it again and see if it turns off on ya'.

A capacitor is a great idea!! you would atleast need a 2 farad capacitor 1farad=1000watts...getting an optima battery would be great too!!! but to answer your question about your amps turning off!! GET NEW AMPS!! I have first had experience with BOSS audio as an installer and a consumer...your overloading the amp. get one 1100 rms watt amp to run your subs...and a 4 channel amp to run your speakers...alpine or memphis audio would be great!! ( if you can still find phoenix gold amps that would be SUPER!!!!!)

I agree wit goof... A Boss Amp.., not trying to judge ur taste in amp, well maybe I am... Anyways, u pay for wut u get bro. In my experience, boss amp is a low low end brand amp the reason y u sound cut off is that u are overloading ur amp wit 8 subs. Step up to a higher brand amp bro. If u are gonna run all 8 subs, get more then on amp or cut t down to at least 3 subs... Just my 2 cent...

are you driving any of the speakers with the HU's amp? or are all the speakers being powered by the Boss amps?

I think you should upgrade your (big 3) grounds before the Cap. a Cap is really just a band aid for the real problem: your alternator cannot provide proper power to run everything + your system.
