Starting problem is killing me!!

While this is my first post, I have been doing a ton of research on the site and it has been a lot of help!

Problem I have is my sons integra trys to start, it will hit on a cylinder or two as it cranks but never fully catches.

I have done the following: Fuel pump, plugs, wires, cap, distributor,re-soldered pgm relay & tested fine, cleaned IAC, IAT valves, resistors check out fine, voltage to injectors, second ECU, voltage to distributor, Appears to have spark when check with pulled spark plug. I check all the fuses.

I am about to burn this POS to the ground!!!

The car ran fine for about three weeks after I replaced the coil in the distributor, then driving home it just died and barely would idle, trailered it home and it has not started since... it tries but never quite makes it....

What do you guys think... I'm lost...

I rechecked all the timing, distributor etc.... it was running fine before it just stopped. I replaced the ECU, new distributor, new plugs, new fuel pump (40psi).

When you crank it , it coughs and attempts to start.... Is there a way to put the distributor in backwards?? I mean at TDC exhaust stroke rather than compression? It seems to be keyed to go one way so it can't get 180 out...

Thinking it might be flooded I pulled the plugs, blew them off, blew out the cylinders, installed new plugs... zip - Nada - zero..... same coughing to start but not getting there....

I have never come across a problem like this! It is driving me nuts... I have checked and rechecked everything. Ohmed out the resister pack, spot on factory specs, check voltages to and from everything, they're all there, injectors click, fuel pressure is good, I saw spark when I pulled a plug...

I just know it is going to be something simple & stupid that I keep over looking...

Any and all suggestions would be helpful guys! I'm lost.....

It was running strong, then stopped on him, when I picked it up it started up fine, I drove it around the block and then headed for the house. About 2 miles down the road it just fell on its face and I could barely idle off the freeway to a parking lot. Towed it home on a flatbed and it hasn't started since..... It pops and sputters as if it is trying to start... but no go ?????????????

Well we're still fighting this problem.... I narrowed it down to a fuel problem ... maybe the injectors.. I pull the plug to the resistor pack (disconnect the Injectors) With doing anything else I crank it... I spits & coughs then starts for a few revolutions and then cranks with no sputter...

I reconnect the injectors, crank it, it rolls over a few times then starts poppin' and sputtering if I hold the throttle open all the way. Maybe an injector flooding-leaking??? or 2 or 3 ??

My fuel pressure is 42 psi @ no crank, 38 psi while cranking... When starts by spraying starting fluid tells me the diz & plugs are okay.... somehow the fuel is not making it to the cylinders... I have voltage to the injectors so the PGM relay is working..... I am going to have the injectors cleaned and see where that takes me...

Any suggestions would be welcomed...

Leaking injector would cause flooding. Had the same troubles with my Z. I took injectors out and replaced all the o-rings and it ran like a champ

I had the same problem. If you pull the hole distributer off there is a sprocket that the sensor reads i had one tooth that broke off causing it not to start. replaced the whole thing and adjusted the timing fire up now. there is 3 bolts that hold it in place remove it and check the sprocket it may be missing some teeth or damaged causing it not to start.

Well, it is time to burn it to the ground... The injectors tested fine, no leaking, they cleaned them and put new gaskets, the lowest flows 98%, not an issue for a stock motor. However it still won't start.... The noid light says the injectors are getting pulsed, the distributor is throwing big sparks (it is new by the way), the fuel pressure is 42 static / 38 when cranking so the new fuel pump is good to go, the cam timing is correct (remember it ran earlier) ... I have air/gas/spark...WTF??? Anybody here in Mesa want to buy this thing??

I will be taking it to the dealer Monday... I hate to admit defeat :( it will be the first car to out fox me....

Thanks for the ideas & help guys... I'll let you know what will probably be a simple stupid fix that was over looked..

I know you have already checked it, but try the main fuel relay. I say this because I was having a problem not getting any fuel pressure so I decided to change the fuel relay. Well for some reason, my car had an old fuel relay in the glove box so I installed it to see if it would work. I got fuel pressure with this relay installed but it just wouldn't fire up for more than a few seconds and it would run like crap when it did. It's worth a try... You could pick one up from o'reillys for about $45.

you have air, fuel, spark and the belt timing is on? hold the throttle pedal down and crank the SOB, do not let go of the pedal or stop cranking the engine until she completely starts ...

Well, the car is running..... Never in a million years would I have ever expected, nor even guessed at what caused all this angst and cost....

I put a new O2 sensor in tonight, since it was the only part I haven't changed and the ECU finally threw a code #1 = O2

On a whim, I got in it and cranked it.... SOB it started and after a minute to clear it's throat... ran smooth and clean..??!!! What in the world ????? I have had bad O2 sensors before, but never one that shutdown the entire engine or kept it from running.....

My only guess is that it was either shorted or open, which ever the ECU needed to think the motor was extremely lean and open the injectors as far as they would go... causing the flooding condition...

I figure the car will run for about 50 more years with all the new parts in it !! LOL!!

I want to thank all you guys that helped and this website.... Club Integra Rocks !!!!!
