Starting issue with my DB1 (almost like its flooded or being starved of fuel) *HELP*

i've done a search a few times (g2ic) and it doesnt seem anyone has had a similar problem as mine, although others have had starting issues

Problem #1 - my start up problem is random and most of the time when it occurs is when the car has been run/driven for about 10-15 miles, i cut it off for maybe 5-10 minutes, then i go back to start it up...it will start...but then it'll act as though its not getting gas, so i have to pat the gas, in essence kind of fighting to get it to stay started until it, i guess gets teh fuel it needs in order to stay on. then after that its fine and drives fine.

Problem #2 - there's also another issue, its when the car is 'cold' and hasnt warmed up yet, for instance when i'm leaving work and on the road within the first mile or two, it will act as though it doesnt have power and itll feel like its trying to cut out, until i floor it, then it seems to work its kink out, then when teh SES light comes on, everything is driving perfectly normal.

i've replaced teh distributor already because the car just completely died on me on one occasion when leaving my mom's house...so i was kind of wondering would adjusting the dist. possibly fix the issue... i know one of the things thats going to be mentioned to do is to check the SES light, but i've only found one thread that made partial mention of how to check the SES light in these cars and it involved a paper clip and looking for the lights to blink, but i dont know what to pull and what to plug the paper clip into in order to get the code.

If someone could either help w/ the problem and/or help me find out exactly what to pull and what to plug in order to try to find out the code, i would greatly appreciate it.

thanks in advance for the help

1.maybe dirty injectors or clogged fuel filter ?
2.just wait till it warms up my car does the same when it's cold
you will always see the check engine light for a brief moment. This ensures that the light actually works. since you have a you have an easy way to check to see if codes are appearing.

pull carpet up from passenger floor to expose the ecu.

glass window on the upperside of the ecu in the middle, turn the key to the ii position to where the lights on the dash appear.

look at the window to see if any lights are blinking.

if you see a red light blinking you have a code. count the blink to check which code you have.

long beep=10
short beep=1

it will do long beeps first then short beeps and it will show all of your codes by using a pause and then start over again.

How long has it been since the car had a tune up(wires, plugs, fuel filter, etc)?
The connector you jump is right above the seat belt control box in the passenger side kick panel area. You should be able to pull it out without removing any interior trim at all.

well since i've had teh car i've run lucas fuel treatment through it...i've also done a full tune up, fuel filter included...so i'm doubting is the fuel filter...i can try some more fuel treatment..but if it was clogged injectors wouldnt it do that all the time?

when i start the car up, i've let it run for at least 15 minutes before..and the light still doesnt come on, it only comes on when i'm riding down teh road, its really wierd  but i'll check taht this weekend i hope, i should have some time to do so

i really cant tell you how soon it started after i did my tune up, i wish i could. i was thinking yesterday going ot work about switching out the wires...but i have planned to pull the main relay this weekend and solder all the points, courtesy of this thread:

for problem 1... CHANGE your main fuel relay, don't bother fixing the old one unless you have free time. its a fairly cheap part and make sure you get the rz-oo63 not the rz-0067 the 63 is the improved version of the 67. also adjust your base idle to 750 - 800 (800 is a little higher than the stock idlle but it will help prevent stalling after the car is warmed up.) i had almost the exact same problem and the main relay solved it.
for problem 2... run some amzoil power foam through the brake booster line, use like 1/3 to 1/2 the can in long spurts, and then take it for a fun drive. its better than seafoam imo and should help.
