I purchased my car yesterday, the guy i bought it from had just replaced the fuel pump because it would not run. It started fine when i bought it, I drove it to the SOS to get it plated, started fine there, went to autozone to get a few things, it started fine there, drove it 40 miles home, shut it off, would not start back up. When i turned the key it would not do anything, even click. I had my girlfriend start it while i gave the solenoid a light tap, and it fired right up. Naturally I assumed that it was the starter, because it did this tap the starter fire right up bit like 7 times. Bought a new starter, ripped the old one out, had it tested and the bendix kicked out and spun fine 4 of the 5 tests.
Put on the new starter, try to start it and all i get is the starter clicking, the lights start to dim and my gauges freak out. I have even tried this while jumping the car and it does the same thing. The battery is less than a year old(per sticker date on it).
While in there i noticed the solenoid wire has been cut and spliced with butt connectors, I was wondering if these splices came loose if that would cause this issue. Other wise i have chalked it up to:
1) the starter i got is bad
2) its the relay or something else
3)that wire or a different wire is shorting out
4) ??? unknown or i broke something putting it in...
