so, i have a 91 teg ls, rich with small issues, one being, starting issue, so, i started it today, this has been going on for a while, but its gotten me sooo peeved, anyways, i started it, and it started then died, then when i turned the key, it sounded like the starter squealed, so i quickly took key out, then let it sit, then tried again, it started, then went to about 200 rpms, and left a rich smell of fuel, awsome, i know it could be a vacuum leak, but thats it, could it be the starter? help meh please??

I'm no mechanic but pretty sure the starter has nothing to do with the car dying once it's started or the fuel smell. I just replaced my starter last weekend, symptoms were it wouldn't start until engaging the key multiple times or having to tap the starter with a metal stick while turning the key.

could be your engine main relay thats located beneath the dashboard on the drivers side. the smell of gas could be due to you stepping on the gas to get it started and flooding it...

When you turn the key on, without starting it, do you hear the fuel pump prime for 2 seconds then stop? But, also you can unplug your fuel injectors and hold the throttle down and that will burn out the excess fuel; it'll backfire like a mother f*&^er. But, the fuel pump shouldn't be on constantly though.

Jp1990. I havnt yet. It hasn't sputtered lately. But it'll start then die. The weird thing is. This maybe be a coincidence. But after it would start then die. I would press the hazards till they flashed once. Then shut them off. Then it would start right up.
