splicing radar detector

so im tired of having wires hanging from my radar to my cigarette lighter. so i was wondering if anyone has rigged theirs to their fuse box. Im planning on doing this cuz it will look cleaner. I have a whistler radar detector and i dont want to splice wires yet until i know i can do it without anything going faulty (dont want to buy a hardwiring kit). Anyone hardwire their radar? if so, i would like to know how you did it. Thanks :D

Real Good!
you have a aftermarket radio?(this is the way to do it if you do)
IM NOT SURE HOW TO HOOK IT UP TO THE FUSE BOX but.....

what i did for my old one was buy an extension you YOU DONT cut into the wire that goes directly to the radar detector
something similar to this

cut the part you could usually hook up to the cigarette lighter thing, there should be a red and black wire, ground the wire to ground (obviously) and the red to the red wire on the wiring harness to the radio,

if you do it this way, the radar detector will turn any time the radio is one(IMO the best way) run the wire thru any part of the top of the dash and run them down, at the end it look pretty clean

No not the red on the stereo. That's usually a constant, use the solid blue off the deck. It's used to tell your amp when to turn on, it's a 12v positive

There is a spot on the fuse box available for things like this. You don't need to cut your ignition to wire it up.. it even has a fuse available. I'm not sure which one it is on a third gen, but i'm sure a fuse diagram could tell you.

Another route is to use your amp signal wire off your radio (blue) or the key-on power for the radio (red) or even the memory power for your radio which would be a constant power (yellow.)

thought the yellow was constant........
the reason i put on the yellow is to make sure it has the most power out of it, but from reading now i guess it does have a full 12volts going thru it.
