Speaker size for front

I bought 6.5" speakers for the front of the car since I had heard and saw on the forums they would fit. My question is: how? Do I have to take the plastic dish out of the door and drill holes to mount the speakers in? The dish is too shallow and the holes don't seem to line up anyways. Thanks.

i have 6.5's in the front of mine, just cut the plastic where the speaker mounts away enough that you can put your new speaker in and have it sit flush, you may also have to drill new holes.

Or you can make speaker plates out of MDF, something like these (I made these for a different car):

Depending on how much speaker depth you need, you can make them in 1/4, 1/2, 3/4 or 1 inch thickness. You don't want the back of the speaker getting hit by the window when you put it down, but you can't have the speaker sticking out so far you can't put the door panel back on either. To avoid that issue, I got 5 1/4 inch speakers for the front, I was worried squeezing 6 1/2's with large magnets in there wouldn't work or be too much of a PITA. And you'll need something to seal them with or they'll absorb water, expand and grow mold. And some speaker baffles are a good idea too to keep the speaker itself from getting wet and eventually being ruined.

Here's the final setup I did for the front of my 05 Civic, has a 3/4 inch MDF speaker panel and a speaker baffle:
