Some Upgrade Questions for 3g GSR

Hi guys,

Well you guys really helped me out a bunch when I bought a teg a few months ago, and I’ve been coming here and reading around, so I thought I’d post and ask for some advice. I’m sure its somewhat repetitive so that’s why I posted here.

Ok, well I have a 97 GSR 2 door in pretty good condition. Now that Christmas is coming, I’ll have some money/opportunities for upgrades. It already has Comptech stainless headers and catback, but that’s it. So, based on some searching, here’s what I’m looking at:

-Comptech Air Intake kit & icebox. My only question is this: I live in Massachusetts, and in the winter here (I’ll be driving everyday in the winter) it gets COLD. So, is it really good to have the CAI in such cold weather, cause won’t that just keep my engine from heating up soon?

-Rear sway bar. From what I’ve searched, the 22mm type R seems to be good, but where can I get it and what do I need to install it?

-Coil overs & shocks. I’m looking at getting Ground Control coilovers and Koni yellows. Because of where I live, however, I probably won’t be lowering it that much (probably not at all in the winter, and probably not more than 1” to 1.5” in the summer), so are these a good choice for that? And as far as spring rates on the coilovers, is 500 front and 400 rear good? Would I need a spring compressor for this install?

-Other than that, maybe summer wheels and tires. Right now I have some summer performance tires on the stock 15” wheels, but the tread is wearing out on them, and I have decent winter tires on steels.

Any opinions/advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, since I probably won’t have the money for all of these parts, so which do you think I should get 1st, etc.? Thanks a ton.

looks like you have some good plans :thumbs up...

so here's my .02 cents

for the icebox, it a good thing for cold air when you're driving. but if you're worried about start ups... its nothing to be concerned about. the GC's with the Koni's is a very good setup, but for that price... you can get some complete coilover steup... but since it looks like you're gonna be daily driver... the GC w/ Koni is a good setup.

I'm also considering a Milano Red Type R spoiler from spoilerdepot.com

I understand that its easy to install (goes in same holes), but would I need to buy or rig up a 3rd brake signal light on the inside of the trunk door (at the inside window lip)?

Yeah I'm just wondering if I (legally) have to replace that top/3rd brake light which is on the GSR spoiler, but not on the ITR spoiler

Suppose that depends on the state you live in...I don't think that it is a requirement.:what:

UUUHHHH-OOOOHHHHHHH...!!!
i'm not sure if it's the same law everywhere, but in cali you have to have the high-mounted brake light if your car originally came with it. fuck it, though. who's going to notice? haha then again, if someone plows into you from the back on a foggy day, that might be a problem.

does anyone leave their car with the e brake on when at a stop light. i think its funny how people think you're gonna go. lol. and end up slamming their brakes over and over.

New and fresh.
you are mad random. LOL

As for the 22mm ITR rear sway, in order to run that you will have to buy a subframe reinforcement kit from ASR or comptech, because that thing is ginormous(yeah i know it's not a real word) and it will tear your subframe apart.
