Some Basic Questions About Remote Start

The other threads were pretty old, so I'll make a new one.

I'm looking into remote start; it's like 50 degrees in the morning so my car takes like 5 minutes to warm up, and frankly, I just won't have it. Plus, my buddy came over last night and his truck had remote start, so I was jelly.

Questions, what am I looking at for the equipment in terms of price? From the small amount of research I've done, it looks like I have to buy a new alarm, is this true? Keep in mind, I have a 5-speed and I want a good alarm.
When I turn on the car, do the doors unlock? I would assume not, but, just in case.
Are there any downsides to having a remote start? I leave my car in neutral already, so no worries there

me and the misses each have one and we love em! my viper alarm/ remote start doesnt unlock the doors at start but my old ladys compustar does then locks em after its started, retarded i know. but if you dont have the key in the ignition the second the brakes are pressed it kills the engine. my best friend works at a local custom install shop and got them for me at cost 85 for hers and he got mine outa another car because it kept goin off and they just bought a new one so that one was free, and a case of beer to install em. i think they do a flat rate of like 250 for basic install and then fee ya for any aux(trunk, windows, etc) ...just to give ya an idea of pricing. hes a member on ci, i can ask him more about prices if you want.

Real Good!
depends on what you want
id stick with viper
thats the only thing with being a manual only certain places with install it
id get the alarm from sonicselectronix, only thing it voids the warranty for replacing anything on it. IMO for mine i payed $160 so i could care less honestly but it was WITH NO REMOTE START
all set and done like mentioned $250-400 range installed depending on where u get it installed

what to look for?
2way paging
remote start obviously
maybe even a remote with the screen to show u whats going off
decent range
warranty if u get it from a shop or something
extra sensors, you might have to buy those. proximity sensor, back up battery, extra siren(i have two one outside one inside)

here is mine again with no remote start

hope that helps broski

my friend has a viper 2-way alarm on his 4runner. im always jelly of it. he can turn on the car with the controller and lower the windows. he always leaves his music on so when the windows come down the subs are pumping.......it impresses bitches haha

>>>Honda Enthusiast<<<
DEI makes viper, python, and clifford.

alarms these days can be customized like crazy, different tones, silents beeps, remote start, windows rolled down, mirrors fold... etc, etc...

only down fall of remote start in a manual transmission is never to leave it in gear if you plan on using the remote start... otherwise i hope you have full coverage auto insurance :p

there's also vendors now that allows you to check your GPS of the vehicle on your phone, start your car from your phone, determine speeds, mpg... etc etc etc.... the list goes on and on.

as far as money... the unit itself is cheap. the install and how stealthy the install is, along with the labor is $$$$
