so i got everything i need and am in the process of the reconstruction on my da, got the timing belt on and everything ready, but the issue is i cant get the bolt to screw in straight, the belt is pushing on the tensioner pulley hard enough to where i cant get it in the right spot to put it back on, any ideas?

ok so the bolt got cross threaded but the bolt is fine, i try to put in in and tighten it down without the tensioner on it and it goes in all but about half an inch as to where its supposed to, theres nothing blocking it i think its just from the first cross thread, what do i do just force it on or is there something else i can do, come on guys i got about 2 hours worth of work left on my car and itll be fixed i just hate running into these little problems

did the same thing with a accord i purchased to flip bought the car for 300 bux women said it kept throwing belts someone cross threaded the bolt as well so it wasn't sitting all the way into the crank shaft allowing the pulley to flop around i took the bolt to work after measuring it of course had it cut a little to fit perfect drove the for a month never had any issues then sold it for 1000 :)

Sounds like you have the slack on the wrong side of the motor. The slack goes on the tensioner side.

yeah i figured that out but the bolt doesnt want to screw in all the way like its supposed to, i took the tensoner off and just tried to screw it in and when theres about half an inch left it gets so tight that it makes me think something is blocking it, i put one of my punches in it to test it and see what was blocking it, but nothing is blocking it. should i just force it in or what?

So, it sounds like our trying to put the tensioner on with pressure coming from the belt putting the bolt in a bind... correct?

If so, STOP. Take the belt off! Put the tensioner on without the timing belt screw it completely in until it is tight then back it off a few turns and make sure you can move the tensioner with your hand. Now make sure your cam's and crank are lined up. then put your timing belt on in this way... First crank, then tensioner, then front timing gear then rear timing gear. The trick is barley have the belt on the first timing gear press down on the tensioner while pulling the belt on the rear timing gear.

If that's how you are trying to install the timing belt and the tensioner is not lining up you might want to run a tap down the treads.

If the bolt won't thread in when the belt is off you probably screwed up the threads on either the bolt or the hole. If the bolt threads are fine thread something into the motor to rethread it.

Like Badfish said, install the tensioner before you put the belt on. Although instead of pushing the tensioner with your hand while trying to install the belt, I move it to the position where it would be loosest and I tighten the bolt so it stays there, after the belt is on, loosen the bolt a little and rotate the motor counter-clockwise a few times and tighten the tensioner.

ok so basically just find a bolt that will fit and rethread it, because the bolt is fine, its the threads on the block that are messed up lol

you might need a tap and die to get the threads straight again depending on how badly messed up they are
